I've been futzing with this stupid virus on my laptop for a week now. Sophos detected it but couldn't delete it. It turned off Automatic Updates and I ran Vundo Fix and VirtumundoBeGone and that helped turn my Automatic Updates back on and get rid of the pop-ups but the virus is still showing up on my Sophos scan. I've ran Kapersky, AdAware, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to no avail.
Tell me what to do, PLEASE... Here's my HiJack This log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 9:15:59 AM, on 12/6/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ibmpmsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InterVideo\RegMgr\iviRegMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\mdm.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSIService.exe c:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\SAVAdminService.exe c:\Program Files\Sophos\AutoUpdate\ALsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\TPHDEXLG.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\TpKmpSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\Scheduler\tvtsched.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\Privacy Icon\UNS\UNS.exe C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Utilities\PWMDBSVC.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmsrvc.exe c:\program files\lenovo\system update\suservice.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmctxth.exe C:\Program Files\Pure Networks\Network Magic\nmapp.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\dpupdchk.exe C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Snapfire Plus\Corel Photo Downloader.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Sophos\AutoUpdate\ALMon.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local O2 - BHO: Sophos Web Content Scanner - {39EA7695-B3F2-4C44-A4BC-297ADA8FD235} - c:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\SophosBHO.dll O2 - BHO: Java Plug-In SSV Helper - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper - {DBC80044-A445-435b-BC74-9C25C1C588A9} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2ssv.dll O2 - BHO: JQSIEStartDetectorImpl - {E7E6F031-17CE-4C07-BC86-EABFE594F69C} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ie\jqs_plugin.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GrooveMonitor] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliPoint] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nmctxth] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pure Networks Shared\Platform\nmctxth.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nmapp] "C:\Program Files\Pure Networks\Network Magic\nmapp.exe" -autorun -nosplash O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [svwirzcgxgmy] C:\WINDOWS\System32\regsvr32.exe /s "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bzmjcpxvrod.dll" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Corel Photo Downloader] C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Snapfire Plus\Corel Photo Downloader.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe" O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-1192560051-3535178755-1236381988-2345769\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe (User '?') Hi I can see the elements that Sophos is moaning about so I would like to do a deep scan and kill as much as possible in one go
To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link. Download OTScanit2 to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
Please attach the log in your next post. To attach a file, do the following:

Looks like you have either just re-installed or upgraded to SP3 hence the size of the log
Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button. CODE [Unregister Dlls] [Registry - Safe List] < AppInit_DLLs [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] > -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs *AppInit_DLLs* -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_Dlls YN -> qpxwzy.dll -> < AppInit_DLLs [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] > -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs [Files/Folders - Created Within All Days] NY -> erbtqvah.ini -> %SystemRoot%\System32\erbtqvah.ini NY -> uv9 -> %SystemRoot%\System32\uv9 NY -> ki3 -> %SystemRoot%\System32\ki3 NY -> hov -> %SystemRoot%\System32\hov NY -> VC -> %SystemRoot%\System32\VC NY -> bin -> %SystemRoot%\System32\bin NY -> gzpruwrw.job -> %SystemRoot%\tasks\gzpruwrw.job NY -> .# -> %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\.# NY -> gaeffect.sti -> %SystemRoot%\System32\gaeffect.sti NY -> gafilter.sti -> %SystemRoot%\System32\gafilter.sti NY -> (null) -> %SystemRoot%\System32\(null) NY -> A08159C23F.sys -> %SystemRoot%\System32\A08159C23F.sys [File - Lop Check] NY -> gzpruwrw.job -> C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\gzpruwrw.job [Custom Items] C:\WINDOWS\system32\bzmjcpxvrod.dll :end [Empty Temp Folders] The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new Hijackthis log. I will review the information when it comes back in. Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer. |

Ooops I made a booboo in the script formating
Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post. THEN Update and re-run Malwarebytes Logs required : OTMoveit and MBAM plus how is your computer running now ? |

It's running good but everytime I run a Sophos scan I still get the troj/virtum-gen and banner4U in the quarantine section that I can't delete because the action box is greyed out. What else can I do?

To remove items from Sophos quarantine
QUOTE At the end of the scan, click the link in 'Items passed to Quarantine' to open Quarantine manager. Let me know if that works Select any items needing removal. From the 'Perform action' dropdown, select 'Delete'. Select 'Yes' or 'Yes to all' to delete files. Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean A good workman always cleans up after himself so...Download and run this small programme and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself. MBAM can be uninstalled via control panel add/remove along with ERUNT. But they may be useful tools to keep We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
XP Now to get you off to a good start we will clean your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your restore points, but this is my method:
You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ? Keep safe |
