Outlook Express Keeps Closing

Try this:

Please follow the steps below to enter the Event Viewer program in XP. This will give me more information into what is causing your issue.

Go to
Start and then click on Run
Type in eventvwr.msc and press Enter
On left side click on Applications On right side look for any RED X about the time of a incident
On left side click on System. On right side look for any Red X about the same time of a incident
Also look for any yellow exclamation mark at the same time in either of the above
If you find any double click on one at a time and take a screenshot.
To take a screenshot click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start
All Programs
Accessories
Paint
In the empty white area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your desktop


Include as a attachment in your next reply
If your attachment is to big to attach then go to Mediafire .
Register and upload your file.
Then reply with the link located to the right of your now uploaded file on Mediafire

Yes, I have got lots of red crosses next to "SidebySide" in the system, & a few yellow exclamation marks next to "userenv" in the application.

I did take some screenshots but for some strange reason, the program you suggested for hosting the images was take ages to initialize so I gave up in the end. I normally use photobucket but for some reason that is not working for me either, really not having a good day

Put a tick in Accept then click on Next
Put a tick in the Don't create a start menu folder then click Next
Put a tick in Create a Desktop Icon then click on Install[/b and make sure there is a tick in Launch Whocrashed before clicking Finish
Click Analyze
It will want to download the Debugger and install it {b]Say Yes

WhoCrashed will create report but you have to scroll down to see it
Copy and paste it into your next reply

Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is really responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

That error belongs to McAfee. If you have Mcafee I would suggest disabling or uninstalling it. If you want a good FREE antivirus then get Avast. You can get it from the link in my signature below.
It's free to home users and once you register it then it's good for a year. The great part is in a year you just re register it and you get another year free. It upgrades at least once a day on it's own and it is real time protection just like McAfee.

Now in Event viewer is there any Red X's at the same time as the problem with Outlook is happening? If so that is the one's we need to look at.
Double click on one of them and a new window will open. This window will give you more detail on what is causing the problem. If you can take a screenshot of that and attach it to your next reply then I can take a look at it and see what we can do. Can you attach the screenshots from before? If there are several then you can make several replies to get them. I only need 2 or 3 of them to check it out.

Go HERE and install the file. This should take care of your SideBySide error.


Download and install EVEREST
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: [And then to b]Quick Report-Summary[/b]
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.

Don't include anything under the line Debug - PCI

Is Outlook still shutting down on you since installing the file I asked you to install in Post 9 ?

Lets do some basic maintenance to see if we can clear up some potential bottlenecks. Please follow the next steps in order and reply back with the results when you are done. I am looking for the speed to be better and hopefully for Outlook to start acting like normal again.


Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.


If this does not work then:

Go to:
Start and then My Computer
Right Click On "C" drive and then click on Properties
Click on Tools tab at the top
In the Error Checking field click Check Now

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:

It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

yes, Outlook express is still shutting down, I assume all I needed to do was run the exe file?

Yes it should fix SideBySide as it is a known problem.

After installing the fix for SideBySide let me know if Outlook still shuts down. I believe we are dealing with two separate issues at the moment.
