Outlook Express does not start in my Inbox

I am using Outlook Express 6, and after checking the box at the bottom of the Outlook start page to open directly to my Inbox. Outlook does not start directly to my Inbox. It starts with a blank page. I can click on another sub-folder and then back to the Inbox, and then see my email. This started after I compacted the folder. Do I need to export all of the email and then create a new Inbox and then import the email back in?
