Looks interesting but the first thing I thought was "sounds like security vulnerability." Then I had a look at their discussions and I found someone who hit the nail on the head:

Being that this is an anti-theft measure, it is subject to attack and exploits.

Using LocatePC in a typical coffee house setting means a clear-text WiFi link to the Internet, where a 3rd party can sniff the traffic and gain too much information. (in a home or office setting where the location is static, even worse if the WiFi is open).

From a hacker standpoint, I think these are some of the things of interest:

-what time the owner appears to first approach their machine daily
-the trace software brand, name and version to be found and removed
-repeating form letter patterns to search traffic and storage devices for
-which email accounts need to be hacked and report messages removed
-the ISP name and user name to 'social engineer' information from
-the session IP that can narrow geographic location of the computer
-possibly other networks the user uses that can be watched
-MAC addresses to further narrow down physical computer location
-if the user did as told, an actual phone number and/or address that can be located
by reverse directory services; including the serial numbers and registrations that
need to be scoured from the theft

For a free offering, I think LocatePC is great - I've already tried the limited few that are out there and this is ahead of the game. I would just like to see it take that next step into becoming truly stealthy.
