PINGs, blue screens and oh my [CLOSED]

Hiya!

Computer is all screwy lately and I wonder if I'm missing something? Ever since a complete shut down last year due to spyware, I'm ever so diligent with scans, updates and the like. (thanks for all those who helped here @ GTG with that!)

I noticed Zone Alarm started asking for "new program" permission(s) to access the internet a few weeks ago for programs that already should have had permission. Zone Alarm also keeps alerting me that "the firewall has blocked internet access to launchmodem (192.168.1.254) from your computer" (PING). And then the blue screens started. Seems like maybe there's a bad driver based on the research I've done, but how can I be sure? And then a few nights ago when I started my Firefox web browser, it took me to a software page "tenebril" and says my product has encountered an error. What struck me is the page references ghost surf which I'm sure I read was spyware (the related product I use is called spy catcher-do I need to remove it?).

I tend to run online as well as onboard scans often and use Ccleaner to remove unwanted cookies. I've recently run a Kaspersky scan, Panda active scan, trend micro and A-squared online trojan scan with no major results.

I selected "clean" for the welchia result, but have had the same result previously and so I wonder......

Stop codes I didn't write down, but a few of the messages I've received are:
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
BAD_POOL_CALLER
and most frequently IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Any advice or recommendations are truly welcomed. How can I check if a driver is bad? And if it is, what do I do then???? I cleaned the CPU fan last week and boy was it dirty; had hoped that would fix the blue screens due to overheating, but no dice. No apparent rhyme or reason to the blue screens, but usually not during computer activity and mostly after first turning on the machine requiring reboot.

As I await a bit of help, I came across this thread in the hardware forum here on GTG. It seemed to be of interest because the topic starter was having trouble with BSOD and "IRQL not less or equal" error messages. here is a link to part of that thread: http://www.geekstogo...a....html&st=15

so, perhaps it's Zone Alarm that is causing the trouble, but not itself, but a conflict with the "new" spycatcher thing I installed. Perhaps if I just remove it (spycatcher), all will be fine again??????

so sorry for the delay, lots of people on vacation (me too)

I looked over your log and it appears that at first look this is not malware related.
You seem to have quite a bit of anti-virus/anti-malware running there.
The rule is 1 antivirus, 1 antimalware, 1 firewall on the machine.
Some programs have the capability of running head on with another protection program, creating problems.
This is what happened in the thread you linked in you first post.

Some reading:
Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one Anti-Virus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that run in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an On-Access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

With the error codes you have I would think that something is corrupt in your memory there.
You may want to ask in the hardware section about those errors.

I'm aware that only 1 anti virus, 1 firewall..... but 1 anti-malware?????
I was under the impression that no one spyware program can find all infections and so I have multiple programs for a tiered effect. Guess I'm a little paranoid after the complete shutdown last year. :whistling:

I run (as you know) avg and zone alarm. do you see other programs that I have that are directly conflicting with those?

Do the other forums work the same way as this one? Should I start a new post in the hardware forum? What information would be best to include (other than the obvious stop codes, which I'll have to write down)? Still post a HJT log?
