Hi, I was hoping someone can help me save my computer before I take it to a costly repair centre.
The first I knew of a problem was when I couldn't access my hotmail account. I am now locked out of it which I also need help on (but this is another problem!)
Our computer won't access certain sites, facebook for example.
I have done everything you asked before posting however there were some downloads I could not complete as I was getting warning messages about .exe files.

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix and follow the instructions on how to install the Recovery Console and run ComboFix. Go through all the steps until posting the log part. Post the combofix log here.

Uninstall ErrorSmart via the Add/Remove Programs panel.

Open up your Notepad editor (Start->Run, type in notepad and click OK). Copy the text from the quotebox below into Notepad:

Save this as CFScript.txt in the same location as the ComboFix.exe tool.
Drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
Follow the prompts. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

How is the computer running so far?

Hi greyknight17,
I hope this reply gets through - Internet Explorer has stopped the last three attempts ie; 'IE cannot access this web page' when I try to send. This seems to be happening more regularly now.
So unfortunately the answer is no, our computer is not running any better.
I have been blocked from my hotmail account for password failure (which was not the case). I fear my account has been hacked, is there any way I can get it back? I have been in contact with Hotmail but there automated responses are no help. As I set my account up about ten years ago, I need to know certain information from them before I can answer my secret questions.
My partner can't access her account, she has not been blocked though. Neither of us can access our facebook from this computer and certain web sites don't open.

Just wanted to let you know I downloaded Firefox Mozilla as some people have good things to say about it on the forums. I can now access facebook!
Hoping you could tell me what this means and will I ever be able to acces facebook from msn again?

Can you access Hotmail using Firefox?

MSN? Are you using Internet Explorer or the MSN Explorer browser?

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD. Otherwise, it will auto-close after it's done.

Yes, my partner can access her hotmail from Firefox, though I'm still blocked and waiting for a response from Windows Live help.
Our hotmail is normally accessed from MSN Explorer browser. I also tried Internet Explorer but I couldn't access from here either.
Just about to try the sfc scan now. Will let you know what happens.

Hi,
I tried running the sfc /scannow but I don't think it worked.
The black log screen flashes up for a second, I can just see that it says on the title c:/windowssystem32 or something like this, it happens very fast.
No log seems to run though (unless this is it).
Hope this makes sense.

If you could only access Hotmail, Facebook or other sites from Firefox but not from MSN or IE, it could be in the restricted sites. Go into Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options->Security tab->Restricted sites and click on the Sites button. Confirm that those sites are not in there.

I checked in the restricted sites of IE and there were no sites listed at all.
I do think the computerseems to be running a little faster now.
Do you think the scannow scan has worked?

Can you access the Hotmail and Facebook sites now in IE? Does any other site work?

Unfortunately we cannot access facebook or hotmail from IE. I could get to the sign in page for hotmail but it comes up with the message ''Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage''.
I can access other pages msn, google, and ebay. It seems to be when I try to log in to a web page (ebay, facebook, hotmail) it comes up with this message.

Download Hoster at http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/Hoster.exe and run it. Click on Restore Original Hosts button and press OK. If you used a custom HOSTS file, you will need to restore the file back.

See if that helps.

I downloaded and restored origanl hosts as you said and it hasn't worked.
We are happy to keep using firefox it's just a bit confusing as to why IE is not working correctly. If you come up with anything please let me know.
As a result of all this my hotmail and ebay were hacked. Ebay were very helpful and I got my account back within an hour. Hotmail/Windows Live have not been helpful. Do you have any ideas or know how I can get my account back?
I have tried filling out the form they sent me but apparently I didn't givbe them enough information. They asked me to remember all of my contacts!
Is there anything else I need /should be doing to prevent our computer being affected again?
What programs should I/do you recommend me to be running?
