My isp keeps booting me off telling me that my computer is sending out massive amounts of e-mails. I think my computer has been hijacked. scan w/ AVG shows a file called faeafae.dll. It comes up everytime I scan and occasionally when I open a browser window. here is my hijack this log. Please Help!

I do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time.
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms".

It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection.
In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:

False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.

Step 1
Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either AVG 7 or Mcafee - if you remove Mcafee please understand you will have to install a new firewall as the mcafee one will have been uninstalled also.


Step 2
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below

Step 3
Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

• Save it to your desktop.
• Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
• Select:
  • Delete on Reboot
  • then Click on the All Files button.
• Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

• Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  
• Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Finally post a new HJT log

Here is my new hijack this log. I don't think that the file has been removed. I did get the "pendingfilerenameoperations" prompt with killbox.

You are right the file are not remove from your system yet. Let try removing them in safe mode

Please follow the instruction carefully
Step 1
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.
Close HiJackThis.
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8.
A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode


Step 2

• Please double-click Killbox.exe that we download earlier to run it.
• Select:
  • Delete on Reboot
  • then Click on the All Files button.
• Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
  
  C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\faeafae.dll
  
  
  
• Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  
• Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.
