I've asked for help in a few forums, but I still seem to be having a lot of problems so am attaching my Hijack This logfile. I keep losing my printer, files, access, etc. Last night, I lost my operating system for the third time. My boyfriend and I have been having trouble with people who claim they are hackers. We've had our Yahoo mail deleted from the site (everything we had saved about other things the people involved have been doing to us) and I've lost almost all of my client data (I work a lot from home). Can anyone tell me if it's hackers or just viruses on my computer?

• Open the the new folder you created and run FindIt's.bat, wait for notepad to open a text file. It may take awhile so please be patient ...

• Save it to the desktop.
• Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
• You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
• Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

Okay - have run both as suggested and am attaching the logs here. I don't really understand what they mean but there are a couple of things that bother this novice - especially the ones that say "INFECTION WARNING"

I appreciate the help. This whole mess has been driving me crazy. I still have to re-create a lot of my client's data. But learned my lesson about making sure I have backups.

Both of those logs are completely clean, as well. The two "Infection Warnings" in the SR log are both false positives. They show up that way all the time, even though both are safe and normal entries.
You do not have anyone hacked into your computer. That is not to say someone didn't figure out your yahoo password, as you know. I suggest making your password different for everything you do, make it as long as is allowed, and interchange letters (small and caps) and numbers.

Thank you sooo much. As you might have been able to tell, I've been going a little crazy on the spyware & Anti-virus programs and protection lately. I've been reading a lot of the postings on your forums and tried to clean everything up as best I could on my own before bugging people more than I already have.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:

• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

Prevention Programs:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

Other necessary Programs:

• AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
• Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
• More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.

If you are still having problems with this, I suggest starting a topic in the Windows forum or Hardware forum of this site. The staff over there are very good at narrowing down and fixing problems such as this. Tell them that you have already been through the Malware section, and are clean of any Malware problems! Again, I thank you! It's funny, my oldest daughter goes by the name of CAT. It seems only fitting that I end up with someone helping me by the same name.

I already have Ad-Aware Personal edition, Spybot, Spywareblaster, Norton, & Spysweeper. I got a little nuts after everything that went on. Norton was able to detect a "backdoor Trojan" which is why, especially after other things that had happened to us, that we suspected someone getting into our computer remotely.

I have the Windows XP Firewall, and after reading many, many posts in many, many forums, I downloaded the trial version of "Ewido Security" and "Trojan Hunter" and the trial version of "Tune-Up Utilities 2004." Are you familiar with any of the other ones I've listed, and if so, what do you think about them. I'd like to know before my trial periods run out so I can decide what to purchase and what not to. I've also been checking the "lists" of products that ARE spyware instead of helping to eliminate or discover it.

I research for a living, so tried to tackle this like I would a project for a client. Too many long nights, little sleep and lots of headaches. I really appreciate your help! As soon as I am able I will send a donation (since I work in the tax field, is the organization recognizable for a tax deduction from the IRS? LOL) and would like to know where to send chocolates! I personally, live off of candy and potatoe chips.

That part of my signature stems from a long running joke amongst several of the Administration Staff. They can always settle me down by dangling chocolate in front of me!

The programs you mentioned are all wonderful. I personally use eTrust anti virus. Go to Google, put in the terms "one year free eTrust trial". You will get a link on the first hit for a FULL trial version for one year. This is the one I use, and I love it. When it runs out, I WILL be purchasing it. I also use Kerio for my firewall (free version). I honestly do NOT recommend the firewall built into Windows. Most of our Staff members will agree with that, as well. Trojan Hunter Guard is GREAT, as well as updating and running Spybot and AdAware once a week!

It looks like someone did. Not just my computer but my boyfriends laptop also. He ended up with 007Spy on his and we had to completely reformat his hard drive. It's been a nightmare.
