Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad.

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if found:

ISM or ISM Module

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?
TYPE=3&tp=iesearch&locale=EN_US&c=Q306&bd=pavilion&pf=laptop
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?
TYPE=3&tp=iehome&locale=EN_US&c=Q306&bd=pavilion&pf=laptop
O2 - BHO: BndDrive2 BHO Class - {8C6D5A56-791E-4fe8-9D64-81781FA15D68} - C:\Program Files\ISM\BndDrive6.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ISMModule6] "C:\Program Files\ISM\ISMModule6.exe"
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&tp=iehome&locale=EN_US&c=Q306&bd=pavilion&pf=laptop

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\Program Files\ISM\

Restart the computer.

1. Download combofix at http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
2. Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Post a new HijackThis log here.

Just saw this reply. Thanks so much for doing so! I will do everything as instructed, but I wanted to let you know that it won't be until later tonight (in case you were wondering whether or not I was paying attention...I do appreciate the help).

What should I do next?

Uninstall WinAble via the Add/Remove Programs panel if found.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit and hit OK. Go to File->Export and save the registry somewhere as a backup. Close the Registry Editor now. Go to Start->Run and type in notepad and hit OK. Then copy and paste the following into Notepad:

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\WinAble]

Save the file as "delete.reg". Make sure to save it with the quotes. Close Notepad. Double click on the delete.reg file and choose Yes to merge/add it to the registry. You may delete the file afterwards.

Delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\WinAble\

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    [li]Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.[/li][li]
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
