Hi, I want to thank anyone in advance for any help or at least an attempt at helping. I am getting a lot of popups, most seem to be telling me that my registry is infected and telling me to download programs. There have been a lot of different popups, all advertising different registry cleaning programs. Sometimes I get popups in Internet Explore, which i never use, as I use Firefox. When all of this started happening, something also happened with my Logitech Quickcam Program. It pops up constantly telling me that it is being used by another program and asks me to switch to that program, or retry, neither selection does anything apparent except make the same screen pop up. Also, the most frustrating part is how slow and draggish my computer has become. My CPU Usage has gone to sporadically fluctuating from as low as 1 percent to 85 percent, and now it just seems to stay at 100 percent, and occasionly dabbles down to the low 90's. Here is the Hijackthis scan:

I tried to get the uninstall list for you but when I click Save List, nothing pops up, but then again, it takes forever for anything to load on here, so if it does end up popping up i will post it. Again, thanks for any help at all, it really is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Geeks To Go

Some malware has the ability to hide when interrogated by HijackThis; I believe this may be true in your case. Please right click on hijackthis.exe and rename it to crusty.exe

Now please rescan with the newly named file and post the log into this thread by using the ADD REPLY button on the bottom right of this post, and I'll have a fresh look.

From now on, you will have to use crusty.exe to produce a HJT log.

Please ensure that you post logs created in normal mode only.

Hello Dotster and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

ALL staff here at Geeks To Go are volunteers, please bear that in mind if I don’t answer your post as quickly as you’d like; I give what time I can.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions! (Click the Options drop down near the upper right of the topic. Select Print this topic.)

Renaming was a good call; have a look at the 02 and 020 entries now visible in HJT. You have a mixture of malware with Trojans including the dreaded Virtumonde (Vundo) and ConHook infections. Let’s see what we can do. I will target Vundo first of all and then clean up the rest in later fixes.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log, from normal mode, in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Now that the automated Vundofix has run a check against its internal database, please try running it bit differently, with the manual additions as below for the ConHook:
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • You will receive a message saying Vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK.
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once the scan is complete, right-click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more files?
  • Copy & paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes:
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnnnlk.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\lklnnnpo.*
  • Click Add Files and click Close Window.
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a fresh HiJackThis log, from normal mode.

I understand, I am just thankful for any help what-so-ever, and I understand that you also have a life outside of helping me. I am in no rush at all, the semester doesn't start until august. Also, this is just a laptop that I use for school, so I am the only user. Here is the VundoFix report:

I am now going to make the adjustments to VundoFix for ConHook, and I will post the new VundoFix and Hijackthis report for that as soon as it is finished.

Thanks,

Hello again Chris

No need for me to wait, VundoFix got it the first time.

Please download this file: combofix.exe to your Desktop

Do NOT run this tool in safe mode.

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When it has finished, it will produce a log. Please post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Awesome, good deal. This is the text file titled combofix-quarantined-files. I hope this is what you need. It also produced a file called ComboFix.txt but is a MS-DOS Batch file.

Hello again Chris

The log I want is called ComboFix.txt

I am not sure what you mean by a MS-DOS batch file. They have the file extension bat are executable. I tend to write them in notepad to run small routines on a one-off basis.

Ok, I have a little problem with that. I have the file (ComboFix.txt.bat) but when I click on it, I get this message:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.

Then I tried right clicking and selecting Edit to try and open it in Notepad and Notepad popped up and then it said Access denied. :whistling:

I'm unsure of what to try next.

Hello Chris

Just check your account status in the User Account applet in the control panel. If it has limited status, change it to administrator status.

Right click the file > choose properties > it should look like this:

Combofix.jpg

As soon as I clicked on Control Panel, this just popped up. So we're in buisness. Thanks!

The computer has speed up a little bit, but I've noticed that when I start my computer, the little musical theme that plays, or any music of video that plays, it lags a LOT, like, it stutters, if you understand what I mean, and the mouse is very delayed. Once again, thank you so much.

Disable the anti virus programme then click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, the screen will lose colour during the process which can take a few minutes and then needs a reboot

Check the anti virus programme is running

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

These are suggestions for making the most of the free trial

Click optimize and improve then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Post back a fresh HijackThis log, from normal mode, and I will take another look.

Thanks, that TuneUp Program is awesome. Also, I read somewhere that having more than one anti-virus program is a bad idea. I have AVG, but I also have PC Tools AntiVirus, and I am not really quite sure where that came from, but it has an uninstall program. I was just wondering what your thoughts are on what I should do about that.
