Anyways, after trying to replace the corrupted Explorer.exe with a new version from the Windows XP CD, I was still unable to run Windows. However, this time I got extra error messages. I got the following:
logonui.exe - Application Error
Rundll.exe - Visual C++ Runtime Library Error
Explorer.exe - Visual C++ Runtime Library Error
After posting this, rshaffer61 concluded that it was a virus or malware of some sort that was causing my problem and suggested I post here to get help. He also thought that this infection resembles a virus that he's dealt with before called virut. Apparently, the only way to get rid of virut is to do a complete format and re-install of Windows.
The only problem is that I don't have a backup of my data that is on this hard drive, and I'd like to be able to recover it before any formatting is involved.
Also, I can't boot into Windows for very long without it crashing, so I was unable to run MalwareByte.
Is there anything I can do?
