Hi,
I appear to be having trouble with PSGuard and intell32.exe. After searching with Google, I found your site and eventually your "you must read this before posting" page. I tried the items in order (CleanUp!, Ad-aware SE, CWShredder, Spybot S&D, Ewido, the Trend on-line scan, and TrojanHunter). They found some malware items, and after a few rounds and some rebooting, at least I got my desktop back (it had been hijacked with a black screen saying I was infected -- no kidding!). My problem is that even after running these programs, a reboot brings back PSGuard and intell32.exe. I can see them appear in Task Manager a minute or two after I log in. I can delete them using Task Manager, but not before they recreate a c:\Program Files\PSGuard directory. Rescanning with Ad-aware SE finds the items again. Here's my HijackThis log. The log was taken a few minutes after rebooting, with intell32.exe and PSGuard.exe running. Thanks in advance for your help! Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop. Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Please read Ewido Setup Instructions Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet. If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates: Ad-Aware SE Setup Don't run it yet! Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply. Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds. Run Ewido:
Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present. Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked! Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply. Let us know if any problems persist. Regards, |

I followed your instructions and I think we're almost there! Thanks a lot for the help. PSGuard and intell32 don't appear any more. Panda ActiveScan found two items in the registry. Should I delete these keys from the registry? Below are the logs you asked for.

Great work.
Your logs look good. Do you know how to delete the registry entries? Please do have a look at my site about removing and preventing spyware. Regards, |

Yes, I can delete these registry entries OK. Looks like I'm back in business!
Thanks so much again for your help. I looked at your web site and like the suggestions. I will try out some of the programs you recommend. One question which comes to mind is whether some of these various programs can conflict with each other. For example, I've used McAfee anti-virus for a few years. Right now I have version 8 (just the virusscan professional, not the firewall or the privacy service or the spam killer) and of course have it set to update automatically. I installed the Ewido suite and TrojanHunter Guard to help with my recent problem after reading the "read this before posting" page. Is there any issue with compatibility? I saw a post somewhere which said that having too much overlapping protection can actually reduce your security. Thanks again. |

Nice job.
I would advise to make a choice between running Trojan Hunter and Ewido as resident scanners. Both will work fine together with McAfee. You can keep the other as an on demand scanner. No need to uninstall them. What you don't want to happen is two dogs fighting over a bone while the "bone" infects your computer. Regards, |

Thanks once more for all the help! I can't express how much panic and frustration you saved me from. I sure hope I don't need this kind of help very often, but it's reassuring to know you guys are out there. I used the Paypal link at your site to say thank you in another way. Take care!
