Long story short...I cannot run Panda ActiveScan...Enabled ActiveX-es...but was not sure or comfortable to ecable the unsafe, unsigned ones...should I have??? All of them??? Also SHUT DOWN Zone Alarm, Firewalls, pop-up stopper...to no avail. It won't scan, altho the heading says it's started...or scanning memory....??? Hours later...nothing. Will post in other spot as directed for this problem. Can anything replace Panda?

Did clean-up prep. I have SP2 & Windows auto-up-dates since I have this computer (over 5 yrs).

The results I had follow:
(Note: AVAST! found a virus during process; WIN32: CTX, which I put in chest so I could continue).

AVG- Found nothing.

Hope this is of some use, considering no PANDA ACTIVE SCAN... :whistling:
Tried numerous times to get it going...

P.S.
Everytime I try to delete any remnants of Kazaa from years ago...I still see the scanners go thru those files...songs...everything....Any idea how to delete completely?

Thankyou for your time and consideration!
Sincerely....Rainey :help:

Hello Rainey777417

Welcome to G2Go. :whistling:
My name is Kahdah and I will be helping you with your problem.

Lets start out with some general scans and see if we cant clean things up a little.

+++++ Step 1 +++++

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++ Step 2 +++++

Update HiJackThis
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click Open the Misc Tools Section
  • Click Check for update online
After that please post back with these logs:
Online scan logs (one or the other)
New Hijackthis log

If you have received help elsewhere or no longer need our assistance, please let us know.

It's a mess...I cannot acces Incredimail at all now...
I can access hotmail acct.
I can access banks.

Hello Rainey777417

Okay. I do not recommend using Incredimail as it is used to be classified as adware.
Some scanners commonly pick this up and delete the files associated with this program.
This is an optional removal for you.
Stick with Hotmail. :whistling:

Also I see that kazaa was installed at one time.
Here at Geekstogo we stress to people that using P2P programs of any kind can raise the possiblity of being infected.
See here for information on P2P's.
Kazaa comes bundled with malware anyway.
=======================================================
Please re-open Hijackthis and place a check mark next to these entries:(All Incredimail entries are optional)

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ca.red.client...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ca.red.client.../search/ie.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzz_ImInstaller_IncrediMail] C:\DOCUME~1\LORAINE\LOCALS~1\Temp\ImInstaller\IncrediMail\incredimail_install[1].exe -startup -product IncrediMail -cluster 2
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IncrediMail] C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\bin\IncMail.exe /c
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PopUpStopperFreeEdition] "C:\PROGRA~1\PANICW~1\POP-UP~1\PSFree.exe"
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Add animation to IncrediMail Style Box - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\bin\resources\WebMenuImg.htm

Now click Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.
=============================================
*Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
Choose your usual account.

Please go to the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following :

IncrediMail Xe (<<Optional removal)
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Pop-Up Stopper Free Edition

Close Control Panel.

After that using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore")
Delete these folders listed below:

C:\Program Files\Kazaa
C:\Program Files\TalkingBuddy
C:\PROGRAM FILES\PANICWARE
C:\Program Files\Incredimail (<<Optional removal)
C:\Program Files\MyWay (if present)

Close Windows Explorer.

Reboot back into normal mode and post back with a new Hijackthis log.
And let me know of any problems.

Hiya! :)
Thank you so much for the quick response... :whistling:

I followed the instructions, to the letter... :)

I was unable to Uninstall or Remove ALL THREE J2SE Runtime Environments, possibly because I was in Safe Mode:

Got a message saying that ...

"Windows installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in Safe Mode or if Windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact support."

(Of course I was in safe mode at that time) :help:

I deleted the program files specified...except for
C:\Program Files\PANICWARE & C:\Program Files\MyWay
, which I could not find in search.

REBOOT WAS PERFECT INTO WINDOWS AFTER ALL THAT. :)

Upon checking the new HJT Log....
I noticed that the nasty thing (Trojan?) has re-written itself...!
ie;

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzz_ImInstaller_IncrediMail] C:\DOCUME~1\LORAINE\LOCALS~1\Temp\ImInstaller\IncrediMail\incredimail_install[1].exe -startup -product IncrediMail -cluster 2 I've been trying to delete this for days to no avail!

*********************************************************************

Was wondering what's wrong with Pop-up Stopper? :help:
It really works...
Will Zone Alarm (free version) or anything else you can suggest, kill pop-ups for me?
:)

Hello Loraine You're Welcome :whistling:

Upon checking the new HJT Log....
I noticed that the nasty thing (Trojan?) has re-written itself...!
ie;

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzz_ImInstaller_IncrediMail] C:\DOCUME~1\LORAINE\LOCALS~1\Temp\ImInstaller\IncrediMail\incredimail_install[1].exe -startup -product IncrediMail -cluster 2 I've been trying to delete this for days to no avail

That is not a trojan just the IM installer for Incredimail.
It shows up because it is set to run at startup.

Was wondering what's wrong with Pop-up Stopper?
It really works...
Will Zone Alarm (free version) or anything else you can suggest, kill pop-ups for me?

Popup stopper is adware see Here.
If you stay up to date with your Microsoft updates they have released Internet Explorer 7 which in my opinion is very good at stopping/blocking popups.
Keeping your computer up to date greatly improves your overall security.

If you would like to remove this>C:\DOCUME~1\LORAINE\LOCALS~1\Temp\ImInstaller\IncrediMail\incredimail_install[1].exe -startup -product IncrediMail -cluster 2.
Then please re-open Hijackthis and place a check mark next to this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zzz_ImInstaller_IncrediMail] C:\DOCUME~1\LORAINE\LOCALS~1\Temp\ImInstaller\IncrediMail\incredimail_install[1].exe -startup -product IncrediMail -cluster 2

Now click Fix Checked and then close Hijackthis.

Now using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore")
Delete this folder listed below:

C:\DOCUMENTS and Settings\LORAINE\LOCAL Settings and Documents\Temp\ImInstaller

Now close Windows Explorer.
(Note:It is possible that you will not find this in the search option just try it with Windows Explorer)

After that try to uninstall the Java applications again in normal mode.
Only these
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

After that please post back with a final Hijackthis log and let me know if there are any problems or questions.

Hi there! :help:

I did manage to get rid of the J2SE's last night by deleting them in normal mode.

After I got rid of TalkingBuddy...which was infected with Backdoor.Optix.Pro.1, the BitDefender scan revealed a file infected with the same bug:

(This time the infected file was C:\RECYCLE\S...etc---a very long file name)

I managed to delete that RECYCLE file with, "delete on reboot" , in safe mode, with HJT.

Same with Incredimail Installer...it worked! :)
It no longer re-loads on start-up, since I deleted on reboot, then fixed in HJT afterwards. Seems to be good. :help:

Now the only one remaining...according to BitDefender scan...is:
Infected file---
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{9406DC1F-25BE-404C-9BDD-2E233DE269DD}\RP359\A0109055.EXE=>wise0024
Infected with: Backdoor.Optix.Pro.1

as you will see in the scan results below.

On yesterday's scan, a similar "System Volume Information file...was infected by:
Trojan.DownLoader.Alchemic.B

Don't see it in today's scan. :whistling:

After that Your all set.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

Spybot Search & Destroy-Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.

Ad-Aware-Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.

Spyware Blaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.

Sywareguard-Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.

IE-SPYAD- puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Cleanup-Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

Google- Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.

Trillian or Miranda-These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)

Castle Cops To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.

If you have any further problems please feel free to contact G2Go.:whistling:
