Alright heres my problem,

As soon as i boot my computer up i have two error messages. They both say RUNDLL at the top and the body reads Error loading E6F1873B.DLL / D0CE0C16B1. the specified module could not be found.

When i try to close the error messages, the windows go away but the stay down at the bottom. Then i cannot click on anything and the computer freezes up and i have to hold down the power button to shutdown.

As soon as i go into safe mode with networking (as i am now) my computer runs fine and those messages do not come up.

Can anybody help??

Thanks in advance.

lilplaya601,

Since you're having trouble booting into normal mode, let's remove what we can in safe mode first. After you get these instructions and print them, go ahead and boot into plain safe mode without networking. Once we can get you booted into normal mode, we'll run some scans.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E265D30F-18B3-4C4F-9AD6-30819EB65EC6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wiey.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E365D37C-18B5-4033-9AA0-32819AC55EC2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wiey.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A70F6A1D-0195-42a2-934C-D8AC0F7C08EB] rundll32.exe E6F1873B.DLL,D9EBC318C
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [98D0CE0C16B1] rundll32.exe D0CE0C16B1,D0CE0C16B1
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PTRGMYGK] rundll32.exe ptmg1v.dll,DllRunMain

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present) - you'll have to search for them both:

E6F1873B.DLL
ptmg1v.dll

After that, Reboot.

See if you can get into normal mode without these files locking you up, and post a new hijackthis log for review.

Thanks,

Sari,

Unfortunately im still in safe mode with networking. I went through HijackThis and deleted the lines you told me to. then i went and searched for the two files that you requested. I found the ptmg1v.dll file and deleted it. the other file you told me to find (E6F1873B.DLL) i couldn't. Then i went to reboot into normal mode and after signing in, my computer froze, although it did not have the RUNDLL error screens anymore.

Heres a fresh HijackThis log:

Ryan,

Since safe mode with networking is working, let's run an Ewido scan to see what it finds.

Please download ewido security suite; it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • There should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it to launch Ewido.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido security suite.

Let's all also do an online virus scan:

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

+++++

If you are unable to run the activeX Antivirus Scanners, lets try this Java based solution from Trend Micro.

Please post the results of both of these scans, as well as a new hijackthis log, in your next reply.

Thanks,

I couldnt get Kaspersky to work because my screen is so enlarged in safe mode that i couldnt click on the button, so I used BitDefender instead. Unfortunately, my girlfriend went to use my computer and accidentally closed the original scan results. I ran the program again and here are those results:

sari is away.

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.

dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\w?aclt.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate FindFile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here along with a new HiJackThis log.

Please make sure your PC is set to show all hidden files and folders go here for instructions on how to do this. http://pchowtos.co.u...tion=view&id=34

Boot into safemode to do this keep tapping F8 on your keyboard while your PC is starting up you will get a menu select safemode.

While in safemode open Hijackthis and click scan. Then check mark the following entries

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Pcx] C:\WINDOWS\system32\w?aclt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Tair] C:\Documents and Settings\Ryan\Application Data\snci.exe
O16 - DPF: {26098EA2-C95D-48EA-89B4-63C5A63BD42F} - http://www.pacimedia...ll/pcs_0031.exe
O16 - DPF: {972BB342-14A7-4660-83C1-51DDBEE171DB} - http://www.pacimedia...ll/pcs_0012.exe

Now close all open windows except Hijackthis and click fix checked

Delete the files. (if present)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\w?aclt.exe < The file was made on 03/17/2005 09:56 AM and is 417,792 kb
C:\Documents and Settings\Ryan\Application Data\snci.exe

Reboot and post a new Hijackthis log here in a reply.

Okay I did as you said and booted into regular safe mode and ran HijackThis. I went to delete the files you mentioned and they werent there ( Im guessing HijackThis took care of that). Then i rebooted and tried to go into normal mode. The screen loaded and came up but i had the same problem as before; if i put the cursor on the start button or anywhere else on the toolbar i would get an hour glass and if i clicked anywhere my computer would freeze up. So i turned it off and rebooted into safemode with networking again and ran another HIjackThis. Heres the log:

You could post about your normal mode problem here http://www.geekstogo...2003_NT-f5.html

As your PC is clean of any malware.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.
