To whomever might be able to help me out,

I installed Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 on my rather old ASUS M200N laptop a while ago, and like many others I am having some problems installing the right driver for the soundcard, which is incredibly irritating as I like to work with music production on my laptop.

When I start up Windows it automatically detects the RealTek AC'97 driver, but all my attempts to install that driver has failed. I have no CD. Moreover, downloading the driver from:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...etDown=false#AC

...but that doesn't work either. In fact when I try to do so, Windows crashes and my computer reboots.

I have tried installing different drivers manually, but the sound is not good (it kind of gets stuck like a badly scrathed CD), which I believe is due to the poor incompatibility with my hardware.

If you have any clue what driver I should use, and more importantly where I can download it, your help would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Chris

My system details are:

***Motherboard***
Mobile Intel Pentium M, 1400 MHz (14 x 100)
ASUS M2000N Series Notebook
Intel Montara-GM i855GM
502 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)

***Current multimedia driver***
Intel 82801DBM ICH4-M - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-1]

not sure what driver you need, I couldn't find your notbook on asus's website. But you could try this program that scans your pc and lists all info about your pc and might detect exactly what integrated sound card your motherboard has and give you a model number so you can search for the correct driver. or if the notebook came with cd's, the audio driver might be on one, even if its for another operating system you might be able to find it on the cd and look at its filename to see what model the sound is.

Have you tried to go to Asus website for drivers? http://www.asus.com/products/notebook/m2000n/overview.htm

The site is currently being worked on so I was unable to search site myself. Most manufacturers allow you to look up via model and serial number for proper drivers. I would try this first. If you have proper driver and stlll have problem post back you could have some other minor issues causing the stutter.

Regards,

Hi,

I have tried searching for the driver on the ASUS website, and downloaded various drivers but none of them have worked.

Hi,

Unfortuneately, I don't have the CDs...

I did the scan in Belarc, but the test did not provide any information about the driver other than the one I am using now, so I tried to uninstall it, ignore the installation wizard that automatically pops up when I restarted Windows, and run the scan again. The scan just told me that I had the Multimedia Audio Controller driver installed...

Heeeeeeeelp!!!

Hey, thanks heaps for your replies...

I have solved the problem now. I didn't manage to find the right model on the ASUS website, but I've got it now.
