Everytime I search or click on a link I am redirected to an ad page, it goes thru an rle822x thing along the bottom before it gets there.

I uninstalled Firefox, went into IE and typed mozilla.com, downloaded Firefox again and now it won't open at all.

Hi rachelhope13,

Welcome to Geeks To Go!

My name is mpascal, and I will be helping you fix your problem.

Please keep in mind that I am still in training, so there may be a delay between replies. This is so that my posts can be checked by a resident expert, ensuring an accurate response that will get your computer back to normal as soon as possible.

Before we begin, I would like to make a few things clear so that we can fix your problem as efficiently as possible:
  • Be sure to follow all my instructions carefully! If there is anything you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask.
  • Please do not do anything or perform other steps unless I have asked you to do so.
  • Please make sure you post all logs I ask you to, and make sure that the entire log gets posted.
  • If you are unsure of how to reply, or need help with anything regarding the website, please look here.
I also recommend that you print these instructions as you may be required to boot in safe mode

Please follow the instructions found in the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, and post back with the following logs:
  • MBAM Log
  • GMER Log
  • OTL Log
If you find you can't do one of the steps listed, simply make note of it and move on to the next one.

I started the second scan on my lunch break, hopefully it will be done by the time I get home!

Is it normal for this thing to make FF not work? All of my links from emails, etc are trying to open in FF and I am getting a pop up that says it is not typed correctly and FF will not open at all if I click on the icon or quick start

What happens when you open Firefox? Does it open at all? It's definitely possible that something is causing Firefox not to work correctly, but I don't quite have enough information yet to pinpoint what it is.

It doesn't open at all, the hourglass pops up on the cursor for a few seconds and then it just goes away and FF never comes up.

I'll post more logs in a few hours, thanks for all your help, this is so frusterating!!!

Hi rachelhope13,

Once you have done step 1, and the computer has rebooted, try seeing if your internet is still being redirected.

STEP 1 - OTL Fix

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :OTL
    FF - HKLM\software\mozilla\Firefox\extensions\\{6E19037A-12E3-4295-8915-ED48BC341614}: C:\Program Files\ShoppersHotlineWired [2009/10/05 17:34:50 | 00,000,000 | ---D | M]
    O20 - Winlogon\Notify\ShoppersHotlineWired: DllName - C:\Program Files\ShoppersHotlineWired\shls.dll - C:\Program Files\ShoppersHotlineWired\shls.dll (VoiceFive Networks, Inc.)

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.

  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

So it looks like it is not redirecting, but my Firefox is still not working, when I try to click on my Yahoo mail message (which is defaulted to open in FF) it pops up an error that I typed the address wrong and when I click on the Firefox icon nothing happens
