Select Proper Boot Media and press a key, Is this a physical drive problem or a virus

Hello

I get the fatal message that clearly the boot drive cannot be recognised by the BIOS "Select Proper Boot Media and press a key". I suspect a physical drive problem rather than a virus since the drive does not figure in the BIOS at all times. (Its not systematic, sometimes the PC boots).

But could a boot virus cause this?
