I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS920 (80 GB, 512 MB, XP SP3). It was bought in 2005. Since the past 6 months, the laptop has been getting slower and slower. A few of the problems that I have are:
1. Programs take forever to open - Even for functions like opening the Control Panel, (the torch will show) it takes at least 40-50 secs.
2. Multitasking is difficult - If I open multiple windows, it slows down drastically.
3. Embedded applications cause the browsers, and eventually other open programs, to slow down and sometimes hang.
Audio and video stuttering were one of the problems I could solve, by changing the mode to DMA.
I've scanned the computer with AVG, Kaspersky and AAW - all updated versions (I have no Antivirus). No viruses, except a few tracking cookies which I removed.
Can anyone help me diagnose why it's acting so slow? Do all old computers do this?
