Is the pc behaving OK now?

yes, seems to be fine. havent had a virus popup in a while.. but i havent ran any scans either...

is there anything suspicious looking on there still?

Hopefully I haven't missed anything else. I honestly don't think I have. I've made it a point to go through everything again and look at it closely so I'm pretty certain I haven't missed anyting else. I'm sure if you had any active infections left, there'd be some kind of symptoms.

This time, I'll confidently declare this pc clean and thank my fellow staff member loophole for pointing out the fact that I missed the pe386 infection in the Smitfraud log.

BTW, from the looks of what was cleaned and the fact that you weren't experiencing any unusual activity, I think that what was there of the infection was only a leftover and not active. Either way, it's gone now.

* If I had you use Killbox to delete any files, go ahead and delete the C:\!Killbox folder then empty the Recycle Bin.


* Check this out for info on how to tighten your security settings and some good free tools to help prevent this from happening again.


* Go to Windows update and install all "High Priority Updates".


* Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click "Properties".
Click the "System Restore" tab.
Put a check by "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To turn System Restore back on:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click "Properties".
Click the "System Restore" tab.
Remove the check by "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
Click Apply, and then click OK.

To create a restore point:

Single-click "Start" and point to "All Programs".
Mouse over "Accessories", then "System Tools", and select "System Restore".
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the "Next" button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click "Create" and you're done.
