Hi,
I downloaded an infected Active X control and since then have been getting continous spyware/adware removal popups for Ucleaner/Udefender/xpanivruspro/AdwareRemover2007...etc. Also there is the yellow banner on the top of the page, system alerts and it keeps hijacking my homepage. A The leoserv taskbar kept coming up as well. First I installed and ran SmitfraudFix. At first it seemed to take care of the problem but a short time later the popups kept coming and the homepage highjacked again. It seemed like all it did was remove them from my favorites Then I installed and ran SDfix. Again it seemed to take care of the problem but then everything came back. Then I disabled the leosrv.dll from IE7 add-ons. Then I deleted it from the windows folder in :C/. This did not stop anything. Now one of the popups keeps opening up my Microsoft Office install box which I have to keep canceling. I usually run Ad-aware SE a few times daily but seeing as it doen't help in this case I haven't run it since I started trying to fix this. Here is the HJT log I just ran Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:05:08 PM, on 12/19/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\cisvc.exe c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfService.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\AppStream\WindowsClient\bin\AppMgrService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxssvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\cidaemon.exe C:\WINDOWS\BCMSMMSG.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\mcvsshld.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\oasclnt.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfTray.exe C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MUSICM~1\MUSICM~1\MMDiag.exe C:\PROGRA~1\PANICW~1\POP-UP~1\PSFree.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Program Files\AppStream\WindowsClient\Bin\AppMgrGui.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\DellSupport\DSAgnt.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mim.exe C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\PERSON~1\MpfAgent.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsftsn.exe C:\Program Files\Nikon\NkView5\NkvMon.exe C:\Program Files\Sony\Sony Picture Utility\VolumeWatcher\SPUVolumeWatcher.exe C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqgalry.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=...6Ojg5&lid=2 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=2860 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0 O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: BDEX System - {62EA9201-8CC7-4199-AC30-7744F836322E} - C:\WINDOWS\ttvbontvm.dll O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Notifier BHO - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\2.0.1121.2472\swg.dll O3 - Toolbar: McAfee VirusScan - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshl.dll O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Hi,
* Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop. * Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive% (Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix) * Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !) °To get into the Windows Safe Mode, restart your computer and, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times. Choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear and press Enter.

Hi,
QUOTE SmitFraudFix v2.271 You have been using an outdated version. It's the Version 2.274 now, so please redownload Smitfraudfix again.* Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) * Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !) °To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key. * Doubleclick SmitFraudFix to start the tool. Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. (Warning : running option #2 will set your desktop background blank again. But you can reapply your desktop background again afterwards You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process. Post the log from smitfraudfix in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt This post has been edited by miekiemoes: Dec 20 2007, 10:05 AM |

Hi,
Just some leftovers... * Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0 O2 - BHO: BDEX System - {62EA9201-8CC7-4199-AC30-7744F836322E} - C:\WINDOWS\ttvbontvm.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: The leosrv - {DCBF721A-11E3-4FB8-93D6-9AE46178D5B6} - C:\WINDOWS\leosrv.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE <== this is a resource hog O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyPoker\PartyPoker.exe (file missing) * Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis. Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked! Also, I see you have Viewpoint installed... Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546 I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
If you didn't install it with intension to play with, I suggest you uninstall it, because in most cases, these programs are supported by malware, getting installed without asking for it and also lead you to sites where malware is lurking. If you do play it, then leave it alone. Let me know in your next reply how things are now. |

Hi miekiemoes,
Everything seems back to normal. Downloading the newer version of Smitfraudfix did the trick. Thank you so much for the help. Best, Strant |

Glad I could help.
Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future. And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here. Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan. Happy Surfing again! |
