Any good resources [web sites, books, forums, online training, etc.] for Solaris basics? I'm looking for "commands" to find out basic hardware info (CPU Speed, Memory, Disk Capacity, etc.) on a Sunblade 100 running Solaris 5.8. I plan to upgrade this to Solaris 5.10 soon. Thanks, Wayne |

Information on Solaris is certainly out there. You can download a lot of stuff from Sun. But it is a proprietary operating system so it isn't "open" in the sense that Linux and BSD are, so you may have to pay for some learning material. Google will be your friend here.

Solaris is not all that different from other Unix versions (Linux included). There should be man pages on the system and you can do a keyword search with "man -k ITEM".
df will show you the currently mounted filesystems. The command to look at the disks is "format" (which does more than formating a disk). The /proc filesystem has info about the machine, but there are other tools which I don't recall right now. See for documentation: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/40.10 The base system is a SystemV system, which is pretty common. There are Sun specific tools as well as the basic tools. |

Thanks for the info. A couple of commands I used to gather the info I needed are:
prtconf and prtdiag I guess I should really try to find a book I bought already by Mark Minasi titled Linux for Windows Administrators. I bought it a few years ago when I was trying to teach myself Linux. |
