Hey guys, I'm a real noob with this stuff so bear with me please.
Our internet connection has a 3gb cap each month and we've realised that this gets used up way too quick for how little we use. I have the Firefox Throttle addon installed which monitors how much I use and it doesn't get anywhere near 3gb a month. But thats just for monitoring Firefox so I installed the Bandwidth Monitor Pro tool (www.bandwidthmonitorpro.com/) which monitors the entire computer's internet usage, right? Well I've noticed that even when I'm not using the internet and Firefox and all other programs are closed something is still downloading. I've disabled Windows Updates but something is still going on. For any other updates I'm not sure of, I have Photoshop and I disabled updates for that, and for Adobe Acrobat. For any help to get rid of these updates or these programs to ask me before downloading if I want it will be really appreciated. |

For giggles, disconnect from the internet and see what happens. You should (of course) see no activity.
Are you sure you have updates on ALL programs turned off? |

Yeah there is no activity when I disconnect.
Is there one way to turn all updates off? I don't know if all of them are off.. EDIT: I think they're all disabled now, I went through the Start -> All Programs list and disabled all where I could disable. This post has been edited by yorkey.sa: Sep 8 2008, 06:09 AM |

Did the anti-virus scan turn up anything?
Also do a spyware/malware scan see if that turns up anything..? |

Yes I did a virus scan, also for spyware. Nothing turned up. Is there anything else I can do?

Do you have any file sharing programs running (emule, limewire etc.)?
What firewall are you using? Try to download and install ZoneAlarm free. Set the security level to high and see if it makes any difference. Lower the level somewhat if you are unable to use important links. Complain to your service provider and make him check if there is no problem on his side. |
