Try this:
Click Start, select Run and type: regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wups.dll Press [Enter] after each one and wait for the success message |

Please pardon my big nose for butting in here, but I ran every malware, virus, etc. etc listed in the "post hijack logs here" forum.
The false message went away. HOWEVER, can you get to the windows update web page? <start> <all programs> <windows update>. I could not access the update page. If you can't access the update page, you might do what I did: In the WINDOWS folder, there is a folder called: SOFTWAREDISTRIBUTION. This folder contains the updates for your computer. Rename this folder and try to access the windows update page. If you can, a new folder will be generated with current updates and your false message should be gone. I hope I haven't step on toes here. Almitchelljr |

Hi Almitchelljr,
Thanks for your input-it is appreciated. I attempted to rename the file as suggested, but it woudn't let me. I decided to try a full system scan (as opposed to the recommended quick scan) with the Malwarebyte tool, and it found 3 trogan programs that the quick scan did not. Afterward, I was able to access the MSUpdate page and got all the stuff missing for this system. I can't say yet whether or not it is running any faster yet, will have to evaluate for a few days. Initial startup seems still to be slow and clicking start>all programs>.... seems still to be horribly slow. I will decide to try a highjack this log post depending how things are in the coming week. Running on the internet seems to normal, as in moving from page to page, the load time is acceptable. I can't definitely say if changing the filename worked (or in my case, just touching that file since it didn't rename) but it did encourage me to do the full scan, so your input was very helpful!! Rickz,
Glad to here hear that are more normal now. That folder is read only, but there is no need to touch it again. Good luck with the slowness issue. Almitchelljr |
