Hey guys, I'm new here and like an idiot, I installed the Torrentsearch3.0 a few hours ago. Im going snowboarding later on today so I just wanted to post my log up to see if I could get any help when I return. This is the first time I have ever had a problem with spyware so please bear with me. I appreciate any help you guys could give and think it is great that forums like these exist to help people who otherwise would be quite screwed.

Well, here is my log. I will run ad-aware before I head out the door, but it seems that this little bugger of a program isn't affected much by ad-aware.

OK, so I've been slowly deleting things and managed to remove quite a bit of stuff, but I can't delete guard.tmp and a few others. My log has gotten smeller so I will post the new changes, hopefully not much is left to remove...

I'm stuck, I dont know what to do, whenever I use a program to scan for trojans etc. it identifies a file or two and then tells me it can delete them on reboot, so I reboot and it just tells me a new file has been found and explorer crashes giving me a random dll error. I guess all I can do now is post my logs and see if they can be helped, or reformat and reinstall windows xp. Here is Findit and HiJackThis logs:

It's time for some cleanup of this nasty infection.

The most annoying thing VX2 does is screw up the Recycle Bin.
It does this by placing a special Windows file called desktop.ini into C:\RECYCLER.
A desktop.ini is a special way to completely customize a certain folder.
In this case, the user will not be able to see any of the contents inside the Recycle Bin.
The user also will not receive a confirmation notice upon deleting a file. It will be deleted without warning.

I like to delete the HOSTS file, delete all of Killbox's dummy files, and then clear the Temp files.

Finally, you need to restore the debug policy that VX2 denies to the administrator.

There are a number of methods for doing these things but I prefer using Killbox/VX2Finder to do everything.

* Download VX2Finder
* Double-click on VX2Finder.exe.
* Click "Restore Policy".
* In the File menu click "Exit".
* Double-click on KillBox.exe.
* In the File menu click "Delete all Dummy files".
* In the Tools menu click "Delete Temp Files".
* Choose "Standard File Kill" if not already selected.
* Paste these files one by one into the top "Full Path of File to Delete" box.
o C:\RECYCLER\desktop.ini
o C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
* Click the "Delete File" button which looks like a stop sign.
* Click "Yes" at the Confirm Delete prompt.
* It should give you a successful "File was deleted" prompt for each one.

You have fixed the infection. Now all you need is a new HijackThis log.

Please do not reboot until someone asks you to. It changes everything and we have to start all over.

Before you start - please clean out your temp. files.

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

1. Download the Pocket Killbox.
2. Unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to a convenient location.
3. Double-click on KillBox.exe.
4. Click "Replace on Reboot" and check the "Use Dummy" box.
5. Paste this file into the top "Full Path of File to Delete" box.
* C:\WINDOWS\System32\o2rolc931f.dll
6. Click the "Delete File" button which looks like a stop sign.
7. Click "Yes" at the Replace on Reboot prompt.
8. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
9. Repeat steps 4-8 above for these files:
* C:\WINDOWS\System32\p04u0ah9ed4.dll
* C:\WINDOWS\System32\ kt26l7~1.dll
*C:\WINDOWS\System32\TRJ_NTAUTO.TMP

10. Click "Replace on Reboot" and check the "Use Dummy" box.
11. Paste this file into the top "Full Path of File to Delete" box.
* C:\WINDOWS\System32\Guard.tmp
12. Click the "Delete File" button which looks like a stop sign.
13. Click "Yes" at the Replace on Reboot prompt.
14. Click "Yes" at the Pending Operations prompt to restart your computer.
15. Double-click on find.bat and post the new output.txt.

Follow the same instructions again with Pocket Killbox and get rid of this one.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\kt26l7~1.dll

Copy and paste this text into a text editor such as Notepad.

Save this text as FixVX2.reg. Make sure the "Save as type:" is "All Files (*.*)" and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on FixVX2.reg. When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform]
"{506B94FC-30A3-4FD8-9BFF-0B4369F1AB35}"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\Control Panel]

* Download VX2Finder.
* Double-click on VX2Finder.exe.
* Click "Restore Policy".
* In the File menu click "Exit".
* Double-click on KillBox.exe.

Please tell me what this is:

C:\WINDOWS\hn210w.exe

I want you to run hijack this and put a check mark next to them. They will be downloaded the next time you need them, so it's no big deal.

Clean out your temp. files and run adaware again. Reboot and post another log and let me know how your system is running.

hn210w.exe is my wireless adapter. It is an old HP model so maybe that is why you might not recognize it. But it is not a virus so no worries there!

Ad-Aware finds nothing, I get no DLL errors, and no popups. I think everything is ok, but if not, at least the worst of it is over. Thank you, coachwife6, for your help!!

Here is my latest HijackThis log file:

OK. No problem. I googled it and found only one entry on it. I have lots of old equipment, so glad someone else still uses stuff from long ago. :cheers:

It looks good. How's it running?

I would encourage you to install SP2 now, while it's clean. Any other problems, give us a hollar.

:thumbsup:

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox Posted Image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. ;)

Ok! Thanks so much for helping me, I have used spywarebalster in the past but since I switched to Opera I didn't have much use for it untill now. This is a perfect example of why it is worth it for the extra security. I will update to windows xp SP2 later on today. Once again thanks so much! It is such a relief to have taken care of the problem without having to reformat or anything!!
