I have a question regarding transferring information from a removable disk (I: drive) to my PC's C: drive. Is there a simple way to get all of the information tranferred from one drive to the other? I'm mostly concerned with my already registered copies of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Thank you for your help.

well....the programs wont come over ...you would only be able to transfer data files....to get the programs on your c drive you would have to reinstall them there....it's not an issue to re register the office suite as long as it's legal

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. The problem is I'm not sure if our office will be able to find the disk. They don't...well...let's just say they're not the most computer saavy bunch on the planet. And nobody knows where they keep their disks (Office, Outlook, etc.), least of all them.

You can do an image copy of one disk to another, I haven't tried it with a removable disk but don't know why it basically wouldn't work. This will save your programs as well as your files. However if you're going to take the drive out of the box and make it your boot device you can simply make it slave. One problem with image copying or "cloning" is that the master boot record will be in error unless you use the new drive mfrs. software, which will edit the MBR, or you run a repair on the MBR after you have installed. For instance if the old drive has 15 heads and the new one 16 that can cause errors.

If you're wanting to clone the drive to save your system in case your HDD goes bad you can use a program like Nero to copy it to cd-roms.
