helpsmilie.gif Hi, I just read the posting "slow computer - detects trojans - ssu.exe process problem" and it is exactly what I am experiencing. However, in reading the posting, it states that for multi person use (family computers) the instruction would be a little different. I need help on a family computer.

Norton detects the trojan.lowzones, but can not delete it. When I navigate to location of the files C:\Windows\Temp, I see all the temp files, but the names are constantly changing, and Norton says, can't delete, access denied. I boot to safe mode, delete there, run scan, says clean, go back to normal mode, fins virus again. Task manager shows ssu.exe numerous times, suspect something is going on there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Debbie

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Reboot into Safe Mode
  • Restart your computer.
  • Before the Windows logo appear, tap F8 repeatedly.
  • A menu should appear, select Safe Mode from the menu using your arrow keys and then hit Enter on your keyboard.
  • This will take a while than usual, so just wait.
=====================================

HI There,

Thank you very much for your time, I greatly appreciate it. I spent a lot of time working on this over the weekend, and I feel confident that I tackled it. Especially since you didn't find anything in my log, it makes me feel extremely confident. I appreciate your time and effort, but at this point, I would rather give your time to others that need it. If anything should come back to haunt me, I'll come back and post another thread. Again, mucho thanks!!!
