Trojan.Vundo.h removal... HELP! [Closed]

I was having problems with my computer, so I ran some anti-virus software (AVG, Spybot S&D, and MBAM). AVG picked up nothing, S&D found one thing, and MBAM found 8 infections of Trojan.Vundo.h. I clicked to remove these infections, and after another scan nothing showed up. About an hour later, I got more pop-ups, ran the scans again, and got the same 8 viruses. Clearly MBAM didn't help, so I looked online for ways to get it off the computer. Finding one that many people agreed would work (fixvundo.exe, I think it was), I ran that. Said simply, it didn't work.

I know that this is a very dangerous virus to get, so I turned off my computer in hopes that it wouldn't spread further (Currently I'm on my second computer).

What can I do to get this horrible virus off of my computer once and for all?

Hello, Timecruiser, and welcome to GeeksToGo! Before I can help you, please do the following:

Please follow the steps in this topic, and post back with the following logs if you are still having problems and I will look over the log for you:

  1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware log
  2. OTL.txt and Extras.txt
  3. RootRepeal.txt

If something doesn't work, make a note of it, and move on to the next step. Tell me if anything doesn't work, but make sure you tried everything first. wink.gif

Thank you for the quick response, but I went on my computer to try to do the things you mentioned, but it wouldn't open the internet, so I was unable to download them. I tried downloading them on this computer, putting them on a disk, and doing it like that, but that too didn't work. The infected computer will not open any windows including internet, My Computer, task manager, anything. Is there any way to get around this problem? Perhaps safe mode could help?

Do you get any errors when you try to get to My Computer, or run anything on the desktop, or anything?

If needed, do you have your Windows XP CD? Don't worry, we won't be reformatting, we'll just need it for a few other ideas. smile.gif

I don't get any errors per se, it just either refuses to open, or, in the case of Task Manager, opens for a very brief moment and closes just as suddenly. About the Windows XP CD, I probably have it somewhere, though it would take some searching. Also, in a few days someone will be at my house who has a far better idea how to work things on the computer, so I'm a bit hesitant to make any actions before then. For later, however, what would I do assuming I found the Windows XP CD?

A couple of ideas here:

1) If you can somehow find a way to get this onto your computer, try running this:

Please download Win32kDiag.exe to your desktop. Double-click to run it. A log should appear when it is finished. Post that log here.

If it doesn't pop up, a log should be located on your desktop as "Win32kDiag.txt".

2) If that doesn't work, and you happen to have a CD writer and a blank CD. Try the following:

Download the Avira AntiVir Rescue System from here: http://www.free-av.com/en/products/12/avir...cue_system.html

  • Run rescue_system-common-en.exe, and insert a blank CD into your CD Writable drive.
  • Select your CD Writable drive and press the Burn CD button. The burning process should be pretty quick.
  • Insert your newly burned CD into your infected computer, and restart. When a list of options appears, type 1 to boot into the CD.
  • A linux kernel will load, and Avira's Rescue CD will start automatically.
  • If you see everything in German, click on the UK flag near the bottom left to change it to English.
  • Click on the Configuration button.
  • Ensure under Scan Mode that Scan all files is selected.
  • Ensure under Action at malware discovery that Try to repair infected files is selected, as well as Rename files, if the cannot be removed?
  • Click on the Virus Scanner button, and press Start Scanner.
  • Avira AntiVir Rescue CD will now scan your computer. The scan may take a while.
  • When the scan finishes, reboot your computer. If your CD is still in, it will ask you what you want to load. Type 2 to boot into your computer.
  • When you are booted up, you're computer should run a little smoother (a few errors may appear though). Run OTL and post a new log here.

3) If that won't help a little, we can always try a repair install with the XP disk. This won't delete any of your important data, only system files, and should restore some order. However, it shouldn't be necessary if you can get any of the above to work. If you can't, and would like to try this, let me know and I'll run you through it.
