Hi all, over the past few days I have began to receive messages on my desktop alerting me that my PC may be infected with possible spyware, there are a few ways in which I am noted of this 1. By a yellow triangle with a! In it which when I hover my cursor over it states 'Click here to fix problem.... (Once clicked IE opens taking me to a website promoting numerous spyware software’s to download) 2. At times I receive a screen that alerts me that I have a TrojanDownloader.XS and when I click the link it opens up IE once again alerting me that I am required to download numerous spyware software and finally 3. I will receive a message alerting me that my registry may be infected and when I follow the steps IE opens once again to alert me of a product called Regcure and once this has ran it asks me that I must register at a cost to fix the problem. It sounds like my PC has picked up a few nasty problems.

Any assistance would be more than appreciated! I would also like to stress that I am not good with the technical side of computers and any extra information to make it easier for me to understand would be appreciated!

Hello KentonMag, and welcome to Geeks to Go! . I'm currently reading over your log right now and I'll do my best to try to get your system clean :)

Since I'm still in training, there may be a slight delay between my posts because they must be checked by an expert.

Hello KentonMag,

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

STEP 1
While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

STEP 2
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

STEP 3
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

~~~~~~~~~~
In your next reply please have these logs.
The SmitfraudFix report
The DSS main.txt and extra.txt
Hi hhhkingofkingswwe1, thanks for your response and help so far it is much appreciated, I shall follow the steps provided tomorrow and post the logs provided as it has been a long day. I do however have a number of quick queries
1. Am i required to run the programmes suggested in safe or normal windows mode?
2. If process.exe does show up in the SmitfraudFIX scan what steps am i required to carry out as i am a little puzzled by it's mention and description in your reply?
Thanks for your time so far!
Hello KentonMag,
Sorry about the delay in my reply, here is the answers to your questions.
1. Am i required to run the programmes suggested in safe or normal windows mode?
You run them in normal windows.( just to let you know if we need you to run them in safe mode we will let you know :) )
2. If process.exe does show up in the SmitfraudFIX scan what steps am i required to carry out as i am a little puzzled by it's mention and description in your reply?
What this means is that your anti-virus software may alert you that process.exe is a virus or risk tool and may ask you to delete it or stop it from running.But if it does do this please let process.exe run.
Hope that helps with your questions, if not please let me know.
Don't worry about that right now, if we need to we can run another scan later on.
STEP 1
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.
