I have read the Must do list but can not get my PC online to complete the list. It was restarting over and over. I found a Disk Fitness Utility for the drive installed and booted with it in the CD drive. It found issues with hard drive and repaired them. After it was done I started it up and it booted up. It had a host of "such and such" viruses have been found, click here to do a full scan but I know these were not legitimate. I have not been able to get the PC online. I was unable to run MalwareBytes because it only gives the installer or whatever it should be called and I couldn't run it on the problem PC without being online. I did however load Avast from a flash drive and ran it on restart but without the updates since I can't get it online. It found and removed a host of trojans. They were scrolling up the screen faster than I could read all of them.

Now the PC will boot but it shows two RUNDLL Errors.
C:\windows\system32\kjsdooyr.dll Module could not be found.
C:\windows\system32\yletnrvm.dll Module could not be found.

I tried to do a Recovery with the disk that came with the PC. I got an error saying that the system restore environment is incomplete and that system restore will reinstall the environment. It hangs up at 34% and tells me that C:\preload\base_01.inp can not be found.

I asked in the chat area and was told to post up here as much information as I had even though I could not do every step. I hope someone here can give me some direction because I have no Idea where to go from here.

Here is a HJT log from the problem PC.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

----------------------------------------------- Step 2

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Fixed the Items you listed in HJT and ran combofix. It started up with no errors and didn't open My Documents or try to get an internet connection as it had been doing. The logs are listed below.

Hello bake,

Those logs look a lot better off, let's see what else we can still find, though.

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with Dr.Web CureIt as follows:
  • Double-click on launch.exe to start the program.
  • Cancel any prompts to download the latest CureIt version and click Start.
  • At the prompt to "Start scan now", click Ok. Allow the setup.exe/driver to load if asked by any of your security programs.
  • The Express scan will automatically begin.
(This is a short scan of files currently running in memory, boot sectors, and targeted folders).
  • If an infected object is found, you will be prompted to move anything that cannot be cured. Click Yes to All.
  • When complete, click Select All, then choose Cure > Move incurable.
(This will move any detected files to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if they can't be cured)
  • Now put a check next to Complete scan to scan all local disks and removable media.
  • In the top menu, click Settings > Change settings, and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis" under the "Scanning" tab, then click Ok.
  • Back at the main window, click the green arrow "Start Scanning" button on the right under the Dr.Web logo.
  • When the scan is complete, a message will be displayed at the bottom indicating if any viruses were found.
  • Click "Yes to all" if asked to cure or move the file(s) and select "Move incurable".
  • In the top menu, click file and choose save report list.
  • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)

Hi Rip, hope you slept well. I don't know if I answered before you left the chat last night but it wasn't quite finished with the complete scan when you were ready to hit the bed. Anyway, it found and deleted some and moved a couple of others it could not fix. Here is a copy of the log. I'm going to get a few hours sleep so I'll check back in later today. Thanks for your help last night. You were awesome.

Helllo bake,

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Hello bake,

I think we're just about done here :)

Using Add Or Remove Programs remove the following entries (if present): (To get into add Or Remove Programs press the START button > Control Panel > Add Or Remove Programs. ))

Performance Optimizer

Using Windows Explorer delete the following folders (if present): (To get into Windows Explorer, right click the START button and select "explore.")

C:\Program Files\Common Files\DriveCleaner Freeware
C:\Program Files\DriveCleaner Freeware
C:\Program Files\Performanceoptimizer (Free)

Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and tools used in the removal of malware
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]
System Restore will now be active again.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

1. Spywareguard: Is realtime protection from spyware.

2. Spywareblaster: Helps protect against any bad ActiveX from installing on your computer.

3. SuperAntiSpyware: Use this program to remove any spyware that may have gotten on your computer.

4. FireFox: This is a great alternate browser over Internet Explorer. Firefox is much more secure then Internet Explorer and also has a bulilt in pop up blocker.

5. ATF Cleaner: This program cleans out your temporary files. This is a great tool that can help speed your computer up.

6. Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)

7. Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.

To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein

Hello Rip, The PC seems to be running great. :)

I can't connect to the internet though. :) I use a Motorola Razr for a modem. When I try to connect with it I get an error message.

Error 50: The request is not supported. The odd thing is that it in that same box it says All devices connected which is not the case. I have the same Razr installed as modems on three laptops and they all connect fine. Two are Vista and one is XP. Have you ever seen anything like this? If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.

One other thing. I never did get ComboFix to uninstall the way you instructed. You said you may know why. Is there something else I need to do?

Hello bake,

Hello Rip, The PC seems to be running great.

Great news!

I can't connect to the internet though. I use a Motorola Razr for a modem.

I'm not the greatest person to inquire about modem issues with; I try to stay more with the malware side of things here. Your computer does look clean of malware on the bright side, though. I would suggest making a topic about your internet issues in this forum, I'm sure they can be of better assist to you there.

One other thing. I never did get ComboFix to uninstall the way you instructed. You said you may know why. Is there something else I need to do?

Yeah, it looks like Dr WebCureit deleted the executable for the combofix program as a false detection, we'll just work around it :)

Go ahead and delete the folder C:\Qoobox and any of the other tools we used in the process of cleaning your computer.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with :)

Kind Regards
