Two days ago (after one of the teens) I was suddenly unable to open anything from the desktop or stat menu. I couldn't get firefox or ie going unless I opened it through an already saved page. When I was able to do that I found this site and fixed it

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/XP-Unable-t...rams-t8598.html

using this

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_exe_fix.zip

That took care of it, until last night when the computer was turned off. then on restart I couldn't get the internet open. I am using primus dsl. I also was back to being unable to open most stuff again. Through some fluke (or act of God??) after restarting the computer a few times and trying to use saved web pages I got connected, came back here ran the "doug knox " thing again and it is ok. FOR NOW I'm worried that if the comp is shut down again that the problem will return. I'm not exactly computer savvy. I have AVG free (although it did not open on it's own) and Spybot search and destroy. Should I run them? Is this caused by a virus or something? What do I do to permanetly fix this? Any help would be very appreciated.
