I have recently purchased a new printer as I was having problems with the old one, but I cannot uninstall the Lexmark x74-x75 as when I click the uninstall button it comes up with the error:

"the lexmark x74-x75 is currently in use. please wait until the printer has finished printing then uninstall"

There are no print jobs waiting and the printer icon does not appear in the Printers & Faxes folder.

Please help so I can install the new printer.

Try booting into Safe Mode and then uninstalling printer.
Does this work for you?

I tried getting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during the start up but when it gets to the screen to choose Safe Mode the keyboard won't work so I cannot go up to select it and the countdown ends so it just starts Windows normally.

Do you have a FN key on your KB?
Press it and then the KB should work when booting up.
Let me know if this works for you.

I was able to uninstall the old computer through the safe mode but I am now unable to install the new one.
When it tries to install the printer driver it says the new hardware couldn't install properly. Is that a USB port problem or software?
It's an EPSON Stylus SX400/TX400

Are you installing the software first then rebooting the system?
Then you plug the USB printer in after the reboot.

There is an installation disc and it goes though the installation steps. It installs the printer driver off the disc and then says to connect the USB to the computer. When I do this it starts to recognize the computer but then at the last minute it says there was a problem during the installation and the hardware cannot be recognized.

Have you tried to install the new printer and then make sure it is set as the Default printer.
Then in Control Panel and under Printers
Right click on the Lexmark and see if it will uninstall then?

Instead of running installation disk can you manually add a printer and have it look at the cd for the drivers?
