The two problems I have as follows:

1) When logging onto Windows XP, two error screens pop up, one of them saying "error loading D0CE0C16B1", the other one says "error loading E6F18738.DLL".

2) Just recently, I have noticed that when I put a CD into the CD drive of my computer, the window that asks me what I want to do (play the cd, rip music, burn music, etc) does not pop-up. I figured I could go to My Computer and double click on the cd drive icon, but the icon was not there. I system restored my computer and was able to retrieve it. Then today the same problem occured, however, after system restoring, it still wasn't there. I read up on the topic and found out that I have a virus in my computer. How can I get rid of this virus and restore my cd drive back to originality?

Hi and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. :tazz:
I apologize for the delay getting to your log, the helpers here are very busy.

Before we can get started on fixing your problem you must change the location of Hijackthis. It should not run directly from your desktop or a temp directory.
  • Download and run the HijackThis autoinstall program
  • Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files as the destination.
  • Run the program only from that location from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.
Once you have Hijackthis running from this folder, please reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your help. I know you get a lot of people asking for help. I had been checking this thread regularly so hopefully we can get this solved. I want to apologize for the duplicate post. I didn't know if I gotten the right HijackThis reading or not. In addition to the problems I had listed above, when my system reboots, the error windows pop-up, followed by a folder called "System32." I thought this might help but you probably knew that already. I hope I did it right his time. Here's the log:

Yep, now you got it in the right spot. :tazz:
I see several problems in your log so this may take a few steps, but we'll get you fixed up as quickly as we can. :)

First we need to download and prepare some tools that we will need to fix your problem.
  • Please update Ewido.
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
    • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
    • Exit ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    Ewido Manual Updates

  • Please download Adaware SE 1.06
Install Adaware and check for updates, but don't run it yet.

  • Please download CleanUp 4.0
Install CleanUp, but don't run it yet.

  • Please download LQfix.exe and save it to your desktop.

==============

Now that you have the right tools we can start fixing your problem.

Please make sure that you can View Hidden Files
  • Click Start -> My Computer
  • Select Tools -> Folder options
  • Select the View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.
  • Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked.
  • Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
  • Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" is unchecked
  • For more info on how to show hidden files click here.

Please print out these instructions as the rest of this fix must be done in Safe mode and you won't be able to access the Internet.

Please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
* if you have trouble getting into Safe mode go here for more info.

=============

Once in Safe mode, follow these steps:
  • Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

  • Delete these files (Do not be concerned if they do not exist);

    C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr51.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\psoft1.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpdx4d.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\smsatext.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\windir32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\slcp1res.exe

  • Now run CleanUp
    IMPORTANT!
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

    Running CleanUp
    • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
    • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
    • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
    • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
      • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
      • Empty Recycle Bins
      • Delete Prefetch files
      • Cleanup! All Users
    • Click OK
    • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
    • When asked to reboot system select No
    • Close CleanUp

  • Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove everything that it finds.

  • Run Ewido:
    • Click on scanner
    • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
    • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
    • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
    • Save the report to your desktop.
    • Close Ewido.

  • Reboot back into normal mode.

  • Run LQFix
    • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
    • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
    • You need an active Internet Connection, so make sure your you're not blocking any connection now.
    • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
    • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts.
    • Your system will reboot afterwards.
    • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
  • Finally, Please run this online virus scan - Panda Virus Scan
    • Make sure it is set to clean automatically.
    • There may be files that this scan will not remove. Please save that information to include in your next post.

  • Reboot your computer and post the following information in your next reply:
    • A new Hijackthis log
    • The Ewido log
    • The log from Panda online virus scan
Let me know how things are running and what problems you are still having.

Here are the logs you requested. I am unsure if I did the Panda log right. Hopefully you will be able to tell through what the log says. I am still experiencing the two problems I mentioned in the first post, however only one DLL window pops up, saying “error loading D0CE0C16B1.” Also, a file titled “desktop.ini” has appeared out of no where; however I am suspecting it is a hidden file brought out from the first step you asked me to do.

The logs are posted perfectly. :tazz:
And you are exactly right about desktop.ini. It's normally hidden and when you rehide hidden files it will disappear from sight.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

The same two problems are still occuring, the dll pop-up and the missing d drive (cd player) in My Computer. I was able to delete three of the four files. The one that wasn't present was C:\WINDOWS\usta33.ini. Here's the HijackThis Logfile:

I still see those same entries in your log.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Once you fix these lines with Hijackthis, run a new scan and check for them. They should not be there.
Then reboot your computer, and run a new log with Hijackthis. Post it here in your next reply.

I don't understand. I've done exactly what you've asked me to do, but when I re-run HijackThis, those same 12 files are still there. I've done this four times. Am I supposed to be back in Normal mode? Have you ever seen this happen before? Also, do I run a scan only, or do i run a scan with a log file? I'll keep trying but it's a waste of time because everytime I run it it's still there. Thanks for your patience.

Yes, you should be in normal mode for this.

It's possible that something is blocking the fix by Hijackthis, but I don't see anything that would be.

I don't know how I did it, but I was able to delete 11 of the 12. I found out then when I check off the following process, nothing gets deleted:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A70F6A1D-0195-42a2-934C-D8AC0F7C08EB]

Therefore, I selected everything else and did a system reboot. Long and behold, the same problems still occurred. I also have noticed that the caps lock light on my laptop has suddenly been going awkward. I hope this stupid virus isn't eating away at my computer. Here's an updated log:

This shouldn't be the cause of any hardware problems. Those are almost certainly a separate issue.

Open Notepad, and copy everything in the code box below and paste it into a new notepad file. Change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as fixme.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above "REGEDIT4"!

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"A70F6A1D-0195-42a2-934C-D8AC0F7C08EB"=-

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log.
