Now the option is how much memory do you want and what is your budget like?
For now you can try the following.

Since your Hd doesn't seem to be running low on space, I want to make sure we can get rid of the Virtual memory problem. Please follow the next steps:


Go to Start and then Right click on My Computer
Click on Properties and then click on the Advanced Tab
In the Performance area click on the Settings button
When the new Window opens click on the Advanced Tab
In the Virtual Memory area please click on Change
Half way down the window you will see the System Managed Size option
Select this if it isn't already selected
Now click OK, OK, OK. This will now hopefully end the warnings.


Let me know how everything works then.

I have a problem.

I right clicked on My Computer, than clicked the Advanced tab, under Advanced tab, there are two (2) tabs at the top, they say:

GENERAL and SHORTCUT
when I clicked on the Advanced tab under the GENERAL tab, it says ADVANCED ATTRIBUTES as the heading, but I see NO place, because there is NO place where I can click on SETTINGS.

Under the SHORTCUT tab, I clicked on Advance tab and under and Advanced Properties heading, the whole box is shaded out, I can do nothing in that box at all, and there is no SETTINGS tab here either. I've never seen anything like this before. My thought is because this is a Dell PC and not a Compaq, maybe Dell builds their PC's differently than Compaq.

I was given this PC from a person that moved out of my building 6-days ago, and I have no idea what is and what isn't on this PC, I only see as I go, like right now. I have no idea how this PC was built, but the person who gave this PC was a Special Needs kinda of person. After I set up and connected the PC, I booted up and got on the desktop, all the ICON's were screaming at me, every thing on this PC was/is oversized.

Do you know of another way we can get to the Virtual Memory area to increase my memory capacity???

By the way, my budget is very, very tight right now.

Go to Start then to Control Panel
Click on System then click on Advanced tab.
In the Performance Field click on Settings
Now on the Advanced Tab click on Change
Now take a screenshot and include it in your next reply.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

Set for either
System managed or change Initial size to the same as maximum size
Then click OK all the way out or Apply on any screen that shows it.
You may be asked to reboot and if not please do.

On your picture you sent me you see where it says Initial Size?
Change that number to the same number as the one that is in the Maximum Size
Then click OK till you have cliked OK on all the windows that you opened to get to that point.
Reboot the system if it doesn't ask you to do it automatically.

My question is this, what should I be looking for now, a faster system??? If so, that didnt happen, the system booted up a little faster, but from what I have noticed since I've had this PC is, it boots up without any problems, but when I clicked on the link in my E-mail that bought me here, it took a little while for this page to open and display, believe it or not, the pages opened a tad bit faster in my opinion.

What should I be looking for and what can I do or not do now. After I changed the Initial size to match the Maximum size what???

Also, you or Runner mentioned some thing about the downloading of large files, with the changes, can I still not download any large files.

In the next month or so I want to increase my Memory and Drive size, how much will that be, and is it something that I can do myself with your help.

One more thing, you mention this Autoruns, do I still need to do that.

The adjusted to virtual memory will hopefully stop the message that it is low for the time being.
The large files is because if your drive space is low it will fill up faster with the larger files.
Memory and hard drive we can help with. When you are ready just start a new topic in this forum or in system builds and we can assist you with that.
Did you do the full steps with the autoruns?
If so then that should be done. If not then I suggest going back to that post and do the steps in order. That will hopefully speed things up alittle and also free up some system resources for you.
The autoruns program is a useful program but you have to know what you are disabling or you can cause your system to become unusable.
I would suggest uninstalling it if you have done the steps I suggested with it.
There is no need to have any programs that do you no good.
Keep TFC and Auslogics Defrag and use them about once a week till you are ready to do the upgrades. this will ensure that your system stays optimized.

No, I haven't downloaded the Autoruns, wanted to get thru this process first. I totally agree with you rshaffer, I do not know what I should stop running on Startup and would disable my system.

Please forgive my stupidity, but TFC and Auslogics Defrag, I'm lost here. Are you talking about the systems Defrag or was the TFC something I was suppose to download. And if I am to download it, are there any special steps I should do with that program, and if I do download, should I run it right away????

2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
7: Attach to your next reply.

There are 4 folders here, none of them say Autoruns.exe, in fact, none of them say anything.

The 1st folder looks like a notepad with a yellow ? make over it.

The next (2) look the same and

The last one looks like a text document. Which one do I click on.

What "Everything tab", none that I can see.

Steps 4-7 I havent gotten to yet, because I can't do the first (3).

and the other is named
Autoruns This is the one you need to click on.
Then follow the instructions from there.
