I just finished reading a topic just like what I'm about to write, but I couldn't find any help, and I haven't been able to find anything about '.tmp' files or processes anywhere.
I did the same stupid thing as the guy (HomerG I think..) did. Watching videos on YouTube, saw a comment for a site called PornTube (stupid idea I know.) and it said I didn't have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (which I knew already I didn't have because I'm a big procrastinator when it comes to updates) so I decided to download it from the site. Nothing happened, so I uninstalled it, deleted everything, and emptied my Recycle Bin. Ever since then I started getting pop-ups even when I wasn't browsing the web. I knew there was a problem because they kept coming up in Internet Explorer, and I always use Mozilla Firefox. So I opened up Task Manager, and looked for anything suspicious. This caught my eye: 23027884.tmp, simply because I've never seen a process with numbers. It's always an assortment of letters followed by the extension '.exe' I immediately ended the process, but it kept coming back; Every hour, on the hour. If I forget about it for about 5 minutes, it will start making a little "ding" noise, or the sound of clicking on a link. If I forget about it for about 10-20 minutes, it will start bringing up pop-ups from Internet Explorer with assorted ads or links to gaming sites. I've never let it get past that point, ever since I found out that it comes up every hour. It doesn't seem to come up while my computer is sleeping, but the other user (HomerG??) said that if he shut his computer down, and starts back up, it will shut back down again, or something like that. One thing I did notice, the number of digits in the process (23027884.tmp 8 digits) matches the amount of digits in a Blackberry PIN. Random coincidence probably, but I thought it was worth noting. If anyone could help with this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. |

Alright, I just figured out a way to make this stop happening. I right-clicked on the process and selected 'Open File Location' which led me to the TEMP folder. In that folder there were two files that looked out of place, the first being 23027884.tmp and the second being 26789642.tmp. I tried to delete both, but only the 26789642.tmp was deleted. I ended the process (23027884.tmp) and was able to delete it after.
I emptied the recycle bin, and haven't had a problem since. I'm not sure if this is a permanent fix, but it has worked for me, and I haven't been bothered with it since. I figured it out right after I posted the problem, and waited for a response. Haven't got one yet, so I decided to reply with my own solution that worked. |
