Virus Possibly Eating My Hard Drive Space?

Well. The other day, I had less then... around 2 gigabytes(Heh...), but earlier today, I had 21.2 megabytes.
And it's slowly decreasing, bit by bit. Even though I haven't downloaded anything the past month.
Is this situation weird? Nah~
I suspect that a virus has entered my computer and is duplicating itself in files, in hopes that I will send a file which contains the virus and spread it around more. Therefor, taking up space.
Although I may be exaggerating, I highly doubt that this isn't the case.
I have Windows XP and Service Pack 2. Any suggestions, or tips are appreciated.
-Oi. My computer is running horribly slow.-
