OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

When I started having problems printing with my HP Photosmart D7160 printer, I uninstalled the printer then tried to re-install. Despite many hours online (including remote help) I still am unable to print. I even tried a new usb cable, suggested by Firedog tech (at $90 per hour). Nothing he tried worked. I get an 0x00000002 error or can't find driver error. Also get a recommendation by "Windows problem solution" to download an update. When I try to download this Windows update, I get a message that my system doesn't support this update.

Anyone have any ideas? I've only had the computer and printer since May 2007, so they aren't old. I bought the new printer because it was compatible with Vista.

I was looking into registry cleaner, thinking this might be the problem, but found websites that think these can cause more problems than they fix.
