Hey i built my first PC about 3 weeks ago and i've been trying to get Ubuntu 7.1 running on it and it simply can't, the boot loader fails to install or when it does install Ubuntu starts to load up and then stops to a blank screen....i've asked around the Ubuntu.com forums and I've gotten no real solution. Sooooo I giving up and moving to the more user friendly Windows!! I would rather get Vista since i already have XP on my old PC but i don't want to have the Ubuntu problem again so i'm wondering if the following computer is Vista compatible ---------

You want to get more ram, I would suggest bump yourself up to 3gb. 2gb is do-able if you're looking to go cheap.

Also no idea what your graphics are but just FYI vista wants decent/good graphics. Its not a big deal but if you run games you might have issues depending on what you're using.

okay I agree bumping up RAM, the video is intergrated on MOBO it can probably wait because I won't play games. BUT what can you tell me about this? "While all editions of Windows Vista can support multiple core CPUs, only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors."

That just means that home basic and home premium can't work with dual processors, but can work with dual core processors.

Dual core = 1 processor unit with 2 cores, so its 1 physical processor
Dual processor = 2 processor units, which is 2 physical processors

Your processor is a dual core unless I've missed something. So you're fine.

ahh I see mich....so I can run any vista as long as upgrade RAM.....hopefully getting vista to work will be easier than Ubuntu. thanks mich
