I learned on the old free edition of the VB and the only difference was you couldnt create executables that would run outside of VB, i domt know if it still does that but it was never a hassle as if youre learning you would run inside VB anyway.

2005 is also now free for that version as seen here:http://blogs.msdn.com/danielfe/archive/2006/04/19/579109.aspx differences from 2006 and 2005 wont be huge.
