I keep getting a pop-up titled "Warning Potential Spyware Operation.... blah blah "click yes to download spyware detector" My Control Panel is missing. I cannot access Add or Remove programs. My computer has been running really slowly and when I do control, alt, delete the task manager button is greyed out so I cant see what applications are running. when I shutdown the machine last week I got a windows message saying "end Program, this program is not responding" the application named was "xlavra3.exe". I also have attached an excel file of the log from my firewall

I read the instructions on your site and did the following... ran ATF Cleaner, Created a New System Restore Point, downloaded AVG and did that but no reports were created, then downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware..

I didnt manage to do the Pandasoftware stuff because I couldnt get to the site it just timed out... again and again?

I have still got the problem, I am still getting the popup, also when I opened Internet Explorer last week I somehow got a porn site, my skype wont work properly, the audio keeps failing....

Heres what the scan log said (I tried uploading this last week, my post didnt work I just realised that this morning, it went away forever saying uploading...."

I hope you can help, thanks in advance, also for the very good instructions for the do it yourself part that is here on this site, I do appreciate it.

Thank you

Welcome to GTG.

Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad.

Download ATF Cleaner at http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use the Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use the Opera browser click 'Opera' at the top and choose 'Select All'
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...showtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any internet browsers that may still be open.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\printer.exe
O2 - BHO: IEHlprObj Class - {ABCDECF0-4B15-11D1-ABED-709549C10000} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtr.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinAVX] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinAVX] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe
O4 - Startup: system.exe
O4 - Global Startup: autorun.exe
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O7 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmcache.dat

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\printer.exe
C:\WINDOWS\xlavra3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtr.dll
system.exe - this file should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\
autorun.exe - this file should be in your Start->Programs->Startup folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmcache.dat

Restart your computer.

1. Download combofix at http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
2. Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Post a new HijackThis log.

Hi thank you for the reply, here is the log from combofix and the hijackthis report below. Nortons interrupted the combofix, I dont know why because its way out of date... Also i had to run combofix twice because I forgot to delete the files from my C drive first.

thank you

Did you say Norton is outdated? Uninstall Norton if that's the case. Get a free antivirus called Grisoft AVG (which I recommend using over Norton anyway) at:

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php

Check and fix these in HijackThis if found:

O4 - Startup: system.exe
O4 - Global Startup: autorun.exe

Delete these if found:

system.exe - this file should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\
autorun.exe - this file should be in your Start->Programs->Startup folder
C:\WINDOWS\dravic.exe
C:\WINDOWS\xlavra2.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\jo\Application Data\bang - unless you know what's this for, delete it

Restart and post a new HijackThis log.

How is the computer running so far?

Hello again

My PC is running much better thank you very much. The Control Panel and Task Manager are back so I did uninstall the old Nortons and downloaded and installed the AVG free anti virus app. The link you posted for that download must be out of date maybe? FYI, I found it at

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-...pyware/us/frt/0.

Yes I deleted these

C:\WINDOWS\dravic.exe
C:\WINDOWS\xlavra2.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\jo\Application Data\bang

but I couldnt find this

autorun.exe - this file should be in your Start->Programs->Startup folder

My startup folder is empty

and I only have a system device driver that looks Ok as its been there since I got the PC

Ok, here is the hijack this log, thank you again

Download SmitfraudFix at http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip and extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your desktop. Do not run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode. If you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder. Double-click on smitfraudfix.cmd and select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter to delete infected files. You will be prompted Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry? Answer Yes by typing Y and press Enter in order to remove the desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection. The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found). Answer Yes by typing Y and press Enter.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process. If it doesn't, please restart it manually to get back to Normal Mode. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process. Copy and paste the content of that report into your next reply. The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

WARNING: Running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your desktop background.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser click Opera at the top and choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

It could be remnants of Symantec causing the problem. Try using the Norton Removal Tool at:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...005033108162039

That should get rid of Norton Completely.

Uninstall the Java version you have there and get the latest one at:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Check and fix these entries in HijackThis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

This will disable them from startup to see if it will help a little in speeding things up.

You might also want to disable either SuperAntiSpyware or AVG Anti-Spyware from running in the background all the time. One should be enough smile.gif

Hello again,

Thank you for all the advice and help. I ran the nortons uninstall stuff from the net and upgraded java, fixed those Hijack this entries and set my preferences for AVG.

My machine is running much better now thanks so much, I really appreciate your help and would like to donate but actually I have never owned a credit card so I hope there is a way to do that without it being online..?, I will check it out

Thanks again and all the best for helping others :-}
