Hello, and thanks in advance for all the good work and help you do!

I have had this computer for about nine years now and it has never really been cleaned as such. My main problem seems to be that I have this redirect virus and also a Malware.Trace spyware that isn't being removed when I run the Malwarebytes scan. I basically can't use the internet and my computer is also very very slow. I have gone through the steps in the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide that you need to do before starting this topic.
The TFC.exe doesn't seem to work on my machine. I run it and the machine shuts down immediately. (Almost like a virus is protecting itself, but maybe I'm just paranoid) It doesn't prompt me or anything, it's instantaneous shut down. I ran the Malwarebytes and also the Avira scan. It did catch numerous virus but again I still have the redirect. From what I can tell it is common that the redirect virus is being missed, or not removed by these programs. Lastly I did run the Combofix but it seemed to just stall out. From reading through these posts it's not something I want to play with until I'm getting some instruction.

Hi, macroniche smile.gif

Welcome.

Please remove the Combofix copy you have and read and follow all these instructions very carefully.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

  3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  5. Close any open browsers.
  6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------
  7. Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  8. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  9. Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" .

**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Note: ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.
Note: Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security.

Please do not install any new programs or update anything unless told to do so while we are fixing your problem.

thanks! things are looking better. I was able to load the new window service pack and tfl.exe worked for me as well. The redirect problem is gone. I am running the Avira "Luke FireWalker" on my Hard Drives again- I have several large external HD's attached to the computer and it is going to take about two days. When it's complete I would like to send you my logs so I can know they are clean and then run the ComboFix if necessary. I didn't want anyone to close off this topic which I why I mention that the programs will take a couple of days. One question... why does Combofix work where other virus removal and malware programs fail? Hope you had a fun 4th BTW.

Combofix targets specific infections and it is more aggressive than other virus removal programs. Combofix cannot be ran on every environment and those who ask for its use must be trained. Never run Combofix unless asked by a trained helper.
