What is the easiest way to setup a LAN so I can play games over a LAN?, Preffer a non-wireless LAN

How do I setup a non-wireless LAN? I just want it so I can play multiplayer games through a LAN.

The absolute easiest way to set up a LAN is to buy a home router, plug power into it, and plug computers into the numbered ports.

That's all there is to it.
