So, my budget is about that. $1000,

and i need a case, mobo, gfx card, ram, psu and cpu.

Can go a BIT more but not much. This is what i have figured so far

Mobo : Asus P5k Deluxe Wi-Fi/AP Socket 775
Case : Antec P180
Ram : OCZ DDR2 800MHz Double pack [2x1GB sticks] or Corsair XMS2 DHX Tech DDR2 1066MHz 2GB [2x1GB]
Cooler : Zalman Fatal1ty
CPU : Intel E6750
PSU : OCZ StealthXstream 600W
Gfx card : ATi Radeon 2900PRO [DX10 capable]

Going to use it mostly for interne and a few games now and then.

What you think?

The onboard WiFi usually jacks the prices up. Unless you plan on using the onboard WiFi I would just get the standard p5k. You lack a CD drive, a hard drive, and a operating system but other than that it looks good.

I have a 200GB WD HDD and a DVD Writer, monitor etc. The LCD will come when the credit card balance is on $0 again after this upgrade

Will my sata hard drive work on this board?

Yes, it will but if you are trying to use the OS that is installed on said HDD then you will need to do a repair install.

I like almost everything in that build, except the motherboard.

Like you mentioned i can take out what i do not need.

The case in that build is awesome! These cases with the neon lights and 50 fans don't do it for me hey. The ram is fine, psu is great! I just think the Asus motherboard is better than the Gigabyte one. And also i might consider it without wi-fi as mentioned. Love the 2900XT instead of the 2900PRO.

I think all things considered, i got myself quite a nice build coming on here...

LOL, I'd never pay for that currently, I've got a 7900GS and game with that, works like a charm, most games on high (Won't run next gen 2008, end 2007 games though on high, and high res)

The system you've chosen looks to be wise, apart from the mobo as others have commented on, improve that and It ll be a pr0 system.

ok, since no one has pointed this out, i will.

i have a small problem with your ram. there are two problems that you have with your ram. the first one is that you are mixing brands. it is not recomended as it CAN cause problems, but usually doesnt. the second problem is that you are mixing ram speeds. the first two sticks are at 800 mhz and the second 2 sticks are at 1066 mhz. the problem with that is that the storngest a crew is is the weakest link, in this case, the fastest the speed will be will be 800 mhz so you will be waisting speed and the other two sticks will slow down to 800 mhz. if the fastest speed the mobo can support is 800 mhz, then you are fine, except for possible compantibility issue with the manufacturer of hte ram.

He's listed two RAMS but specified with "or" that he's only considering one or the other.

You've picked a pretty good mainboard and the FSB will support the faster Corsair RAM. The OSC RAM has a little lower Latency, but the Corsair is faster and will give you better performance on that board.

The ASUS board you've chosen makes use of passive chipset cooling and the heatpipe technology they use is very effective, however, this leads to higher temperatures inside the case. The Antec Nine Hundred case would probably be a better choice...it's fan system moves a tremendous amount of air through the case. It also has a more open equipment bay for better circulation.

Overall, for a grand, that's a pretty nice build.

Hdd : Already have a 200GB Western Digital
OS : Already have XP Pro, will upgrade [or downgrade depending on how you see it] to Vista


Will all these components fit in to the case nicely?
I really like the Antec case I have chosen which was recommended by one of the G2G guys. Also I have gone over my budget of $1000 by a bit but not to serious. Also I stay in South Africa so anyone with a little experience that has ordered from overseas [specifically newegg.com] have any comments? If one of the components fails, then what? Ship it all the way back at my own cost? Also, what is this 'OPEN BOX' and 'rebate' you get from that site? Could i get a rebate all the way from S.A? Open Box sounds like you only get the component you ordered and NOTHING else. No driver CD cables etc?! Am i right or wrong?
