Win XP c000139 {Entry point not Found}

Hey folks... having a problem getting my laptop running. Here's the error message:

STOP: c0000139 {Entry Point Not Found}
The procedure entry point QueryPerfor)anceCounter could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

I've tried booting in safe mode, no dice. I bought this laptop used (it was working fine for a while), and I do NOT have the XP disc. What are my options? Thanks!

Your laptop may have recovery partition.
What brand of laptop is it?

It's a Dell... Latitude D600.

At Dell's logo press CTRL+F11 and see, if it'll bring up recovery partition.

CTRL + F11 did nothing... it went straight to the XP startup screen.. and from there to the BSoD. Not having the XP disc, would I accomplish anything by installing an old copy of Windows 2000 pro on it?

Yeah, if you go with formatting, you can install any Windows version.

Sorry to resurrect this thread.. but I finally got around to trying a reformat/reinstall using my Win2000 Executive edition.

Reformatted the hard drive, no issues.

Trying to install the OS, and I get lots of messages about certain files not copying right, or not being able to install certain files.

For example:

ir41_32.ax was not copied correctly
ir50_32.dll unable to copy
ir50_qcx.dll was not copied correctly
msvcrt20.dll was not copied correctly

There are LOTS of messages like this.. so is something fried on the motherboard? Memory bad? Time to make this one a doorstop and buy a new one?
