When I turn on my computer I get a small gray box that opens (Microsoft Internet Explorer). It asks me to download WinAnti Spyware 2007. I get numerous pop ups along with this. It tells me my computer may be running slow or erratic??? Is this a virus or Trojan of some kind that can be removed.

- Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
- Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
- By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
- Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
- Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
- Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
- At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
- Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
- Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
- Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
- DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Go to the folder C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\ and Right click on HijackThis.exe then choose Rename. Change it to newhj.exe (If you have a short cut on your desktop for HijackThis it will no longer work.) You can just run the file from here when needed or right click the newly renamed file and create a new shortcut and place it on your desktop.
***If you already have VundoFix on your computer, please delete it. We need to be sure you have the latest version.***
Please download VundoFix.exe (by Atribune) to your Desktop
Then post C:\vundofix.txt and a log from the newly renamed HijackThis

Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), it should open a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply .

Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.
Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan

Sorry for the delay......Not sure what happened, I'd swear I replied here the other day.....Again sorry.
Good job your log is clean.
You can delete the combofix, vundofix C:\VundoFix Backups and folder/files now ..
First, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:
Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.
You have the latest Java on your machine..make sure it is the ONLY one you have by following guidelines HERE
To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.
SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.
More info and download is available at links in the following article by TonyKlein

Hi there ..no prob i was just wanting to get this sorted out before going on vacation. I do have a question for u..We run Norton Antivirus corporate edition and there are some items in quarantine. Is that maybe why im getting re-infected. This is our 3rd time. We will take your advise and install the programs u have listed and hope this is the end of it. It is frustrating but I truly do appreciate you taking the time out to help me.

No, highly unlikely you are being infected from there.... Although you can/should clean out your quarantined items on a regular basisWe run Norton Antivirus corporate edition and there are some items in quarantine. Is that maybe why I'm getting re-infected.
Don't take this personally but the majority of infection arise from "bad" browsing habits. Explained in more depth in the "How did i get infected...." link in my last post
