I have a Acer Aspire 5570 running Vista Home 32-bit and after a month and a bit, 1st e-mail dating April 7, 2008 , of e-mails back and forward to Microsoft Windows Vista Support I still can't get SP1 to install on my computer. I am getting overly tired of e-mailing back and forward with MS support people and making no progress at all. I was hoping that someone out there could help me out. I will list below the error info I get when I try to install and what the support people have told me to do, which was always unsuccessful. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) Installation date: 21/05/2008 2:16 AM Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80004001 Update type: Important Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an update to Windows Vista that addresses key feedback from our customers. Windows Vista SP1 addresses specific reliability and performance issues, supports new types of hardware and adds support for several emerging standards. After you install this item, you will have to restart your computer. More information: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb738089 Help and Support: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936330 Support's advised troubleshooting: >Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone Installer >Install Windows Vista SP1 in Clean Boot mode using Standalone Installer and Windows Update installer >Please download the System Update Readiness Tool from the link below according to your System Type (This download did not fail) and repeat Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Standalone Installer and/or Install Windows Vista SP1 in Clean Boot mode using Standalone Installer and Windows Update installer (But the installation of SP1 still failed) Thank you |

Hello elly0601...
When you run the stand alone SP1 download, are you:
Something you might try, if you haven't already, is to do a system restore to a date before you initially tried to install the service pack...then try running the stand alone installer package using the suggestions listed above. wannabe1 |

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I am running the installation as Administrator, I'm also disabling my anti-virus application and to what I know I am closing all open applications and browsers too. I initially tried to install the service pack on March 21st, the only date I can choose for the system restore is May 30th. So I don't think I can do the system restore the way you suggested, right? |

When you open the System Restore feature, on the first screen there should be a radio button near the bottom to "Choose a different restore point"...select that and click "Next". On the next screen, there will be a check box at the bottom to "Show restore points older than 5 days...select that and see if you are offered a restore point prior to your initial installation attempt.
You might also check in Programs and Features (from Control Panel), click the link on the left to "View installed updates", and look in the resulting list for "Service Pack for Microsoft Windows". If you find it in the list, select it and see if you can remove it. It may or may not have completed the installation far enough to be listed there. |

When I get to the open the System Restore and get to the 2nd screen part I don't have the "Show restore points older than 5 days" option at all. Should it be there??
I also checked in the "View installed updates" but the Service Pack for Microsoft Windows is not listed. |
