Hi
I assembled a new PC with Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 and Intel DG33FB. XP with SP2 installs and works fine... I wanted to install windows 98....I removed xp and tried to install win98 SE. I used a win 98 boot cd to start up..It starts up..But, it gives an error message... Device Driver Not Found :'MSCD001' No drivers found;Aborting installation No valid CDROM device drivers selected I use a IDE DVD Writer SONY Model DRU190A I have put the jumper as cable select and connected the IDE cable as master....There is only one IDE slot in the mobo... My harddrive is in SATA 0 port.. Please advise... One more piece of information: the board manual asked me to set in the bios to....Configure SATA as IDE..if I have to install anything other than Vista..Since I am installing 98 ..I have set the above option... |

Windows 98 is not supported on this motherboard.
While it may look like an IDE drive, a lot of newer boards will treat IDE drives (hard drive and CD units) as pure SATA units. This means that the Windows 98 CD will not see the CD unit(s). You'll have to make your own Windows 98 boot disk using the GCDROM.SYS driver which provides support for most though not all SATA configurations. The SATA as IDE option in the BIOS applies only to the hard drive. Again, your hardware will not work on Windows 98 and you won't get any drivers for it from Intel for that version of Windows so you'll end up looking at a very washed out screen with next to nothing working. |

Thanks Neil...
I have an accounting software I developed on Win 98 - 3 years ago. This is running in a machine at a client place... Now I am replacing the hardware for them...The SW is perfectly running fine...I dont want to disturb the 98 running now...That's why I would like to keep dual booting with xp and 98 and slowly sunset the 98. I want to give 98 a try.. I am a newbie in this area.....Can you please tell me how do I create a Win 98 boot cd with gcdrom.sys or can you point me to a tutorial or post which explains this? Thanks again........ |
