Do you get any errors messages? Are you current with Windows Updates? Have you installed Service Pack 1 for Vista?
If you haven't installed Vista Service Pack 1, I'd suggest you do it. Windows Vista Calendar feature is supposed to remind you of events even when it's not running, because it runs as a service. However, there are some known problems with it, and Vista's User Account Control (UAC). The updates are supposed to address and correct those problems. |

I'm fully updated. As a rule with my school's software, I can't connect to the internet unless I have UAC enabled. Although, it was enabled last semester as well, and I had no trouble getting reminded outside the program.
