Windows Search Feature/ Search Companion, Search sidebar appears, but no "dialob box" from companion

OS: XP



When I try to run the Windows XP search feature from the Start Menu→Search... the Search Companion pops up, but the "dialog box" that you type your query in doesn't. I try to click on the companion, but he just animates. Also, the Help and Support feature won't work either. Please Help!

You can try reinstall the Search Assistant:

Control Panel / Folder Options, View tab.
Select "Show hidden files and folders". Click on Apply then OK.
Right click C:\Windows\Inf\srchasst.inf (not .PNF) then click Install.

The required files are on the XP CD or the C:\I386 folder on your hard drive if it's been placed there.
