A customer brought in a gateway with windows ME on it. The problem is that when i go to click on something it freezes for anywhere between 10 seconds to 5 minutes. What is causing this? Also, sometimes it freezes forever.

The biggest problem is Windows ME itself. It's the worst operating system Microsoft gave us --- even they would admit that 'off the record'.
Take this opportunity to encourage the owner to either revert to Windows 98SE or, if funds allow, a new PC with XP pre-installed.
