Hi.
I am trying to figure out how to fix an error message.
Windows/prefetch file corrupted.
I get this error when ever I try to do anything.
I'm in Louisiana trying to get an oak tree off my house and need my computer but worried about using it with this issue.
Can anyone help??(with the computer not the tree, lol)

Delete the Windows Prefetch files.
They are located: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch directory.
After they are deleted it will take about 4 or 5 reboots for the PC to be
fully up to speed, you may notice that the first few reboots will be slower
than usual. After each reboot run and exit the applications you normally use
and then reboot again and repeat the process of running common applications.

I read that I could delete the files BUT, it won't let me in that file to do so. I even tried it in safe mode. Can I delete the entire folder?

C Cleaner can be used to do this.

Or try using the run box

1. Click on the Start Menu (lower left corner of your Desktop).

2. Access the Run dialog box.

3. Type Prefetch in the Open text box and click OK.

4. Click on any of the items in the right column to set your insertion bar.

5. Press [Ctrl]+A to select all the files.

6. Press [Delete].

7. Close the folder.

As you use your system, Windows XP will rebuild the contents of the Prefetch folder.

If you know which file is corrupted, type prefetch in the start search box, then click on the folder to open it. Right click on the corrupted file and delete it.
